Hey all,

What is the best compact tyre pump/inflator to keep on the bike?
Only really need it in case I need to inflate a tyre after a puncture repair on the road.

I use a Joe Blow pump at home but it's not well suited to carrying on the bike:
https://www.wiggle.co.uk/topeak-joe-blow-max-ii-track-pump?lang=en&curr=GBP&dest=1&sku=5360093202&utm_source=google&utm_term=&utm_campaign=&utm_medium=base&gclid=CjwKCAjw2P-KBhByEiwADBYWCh57UoBnim370zeYTjEKOoNnY3efp2QNueGDyDxWHUyw2Yf5cQTnvhoCUGYQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

Thanks all!

Yeah, I have something similar - what one would call a stirrup pump - and apart from the pressure gauge only giving you a vague idea it precludes the need to waste a quid at the petrol garage.

I'd be looking at something like a TopPeak Mountain TT G - high volume for MTBs, max 60psi - should do at a pinch.

FFS just flag down an HGV, they have air brakes so tend to have air lines and can fill your tyre.

I carry one of these in my topbox:
https://www.screwfix.com/p/rac-compact-air-compressor-12v/1371r
Does the job, but wish it was just a bit smaller for lugging around. I've heard of people removing the outer casing and using it that way.

https://www.airman-uk.com/product/tour-compressor/ looks like a good shout (don't know how big it is but 'looks' smaller !)

Back in the 80's I had a Simson S51 - it came with a bicycle type pump clipped under the seat.

Only bike I've ever seen that came with a pump as standard.

(Although I'm sure there are others!)

Been meaning to get one of the co2 cartridge inflators to go with my puncture kit. Looks a lot less bulky and lighter than electric pumps.

Rocky Creek Motopresser.
Although three CO2 canisters will put just enough air into a rear tyre to get you to a petrol station forecourt at reduced speeds where you can use their compressor to top up.

You realise you'll need a lot more than the supplied 5 cylinders to fill your tyre though? I don't know how many PSI you can expect from these, but the idea is just to let you limp to the next garage/airline. Anyway, I reckon 5 cylinders plus the inflator will be just as bulky as a standard pump like mine (smaller models are available); plus you then have to buy another stack of CO2 cylinders (~£8 for 5) after using them... it's a no from me

You can fill a tyre with less than a handful of co2 bottles I'm led to believe two is sufficient to fill a motorbike tyre. And I think there are bigger sizes too.
I have had two of the small size skwirreled away under the seat of my big bike for a rainy day.
But I also have sealant in the tyres so my back-up is probably of more use to some kunt who gets stuck and I arrive on Thunderbird II. Cool

(Edit: Two is enough then ride the useless hoowur to a petrol station and hope they have a pump.)

Although if this was Flypast magazine I’d feel compelled to write in and point out that International Rescue never used Roman numerals.

In my experience these aren't suitable to be kept ON the bike. They're very flimsy and when shaken about in a top box or panniers they'll easily break. I suppose if you wrap them in copious amounts of bubble wrap or something they may just about survive. But they're still fragile.

How long will that take to fill a motorcycle tyre? I’m getting a sugar-low just thinking about it.

Very little time - you'd be amazed.
I bought a reasonable quality Vandorm Legend 7 bicycle pump recently (to supplant all these junk 12V compressors I seem to get through) after reading a few reviews. The Vandorm is obviously in a different league from what OP bought, but it's the same concept and almost identical design. These things are a far cry from the bicycle tyre inflators of yesteryear. Absolutely effortless. Plus the Schrader attachment is really good and sits all the way down on the valve.

I don't keep my inflator on the bike - just in the garage. On the bike, I keep 2 canisters of CO2 and a can of Tyre Weld. However, the bicycle pump is now my default method of keeping my tyres inflated at home.

100% Recommend!

It fits inside my tyre repair kit and I used it like 30 times to top up the tyre pressure and still have half battery left, amazing product
