Sorry my original post was a little incoherent but it was late - tired and emotional and all that Smile

I think I was just staggered that it was a big twin and the general form for big twins is Harleys Shocked But yes, the re-use of engines and shoe-horning them in everywhere, the "new" R7 mentioned seems the most inappropriate.

I wonder if this is a winding down of imagination given the manufacturers are all going hybrid/electric Sad

V2 and V4 cost and space and weight negative aspects made VT750S ->Rebel500 sell well. VT750S didn't sell well. They even made VT400S but it was too heavy. With para twin Rebel could be much lighter and compacter than VT and they are selling well. Marketing win.

Also, because of demographic changes to the bike market (in Europe). Old men don't find sportier ergos as enticing, etc.

But that shouldn't apply so readily to the US market where it seems that you can still get a bike license by being able to breathe. However, US = cruisers predominantly. So even there, no huge demand for e.g. il4.

That's far more concise. It was though your brain had been nicked by Teffers for a second back there.

This must be relevant.. I also wonder how many owners use all the capabilities or even a fraction of their sports bikes.

Having looked at the specs, I'm totally underwhelmed. Honda have created a bike with similar power and weight to a 1990s1200 Bandit but without the refinement or bottom end torque (I've experienced this engine in the Africa Twin).

Honda had the chance to move the game on and fluffed it.

In 2021 this bike should be at least 40kg lighter and 30% cheaper.

The competition is.

There's going to be an element of that I reckon. Western countries have all but committed to going entirely electric in 15 years from now, and the far eastern countries large appetite for bikes is generally for lower capacity machines, 650cc and less. Why spend the R&D budget on a brand new engine if you're going to have to throw it all away in a few years?

Honda NT1100: accountant designed abomination.

Why would you have one of them when you could have the new Suzuki GSX-S 1000GT for less money?

Air cooled IL4 CB1100 dropped from Honda line up.
This model seems to be the successor of CB1100.

Tell us what you think of it though Laughing
Gotta admit, I'm totally underwhelmed at the thought of it too. But I'm sure it'll appeal to some, and if it's a big enough segment of the market, why not?

That's styled after the 70s Dreams. I quite like it - not that I'll be buying one but still...

I was young and it did handle rather nicely as the well-chamfered footpegs and centre stand showed. Laughing

I think in those days footpegs and centre stands were designed in such a way as to prevent you from finding out how bad the handling really was Laughing

I'd accept that except for the fact that Kawasaki's KH strokers didn't attempt to hide their appalling handling. I had a real struggle to get the pegs down on one of those. Laughing

For the time the Honda's handling was exceptional especially with TT100s fitted. Having the engine as a frame member probably helped a lot.

Ah to be young and stupid fearless. Laughing

Not offensive looking but why do all these ridiculous high capacity retro nakeds exist? is it just so the open-face wanker-beards can make a lot of noise (once the inevitable megaphones have been fitted) as they exit the Bike-shed cafe? In terms of getting from A-B the old 400 would have been perfect

As an open-faced-wanker-beard myself, with a classically styled large twin, it's because they look nice and and you can be lazy riding them.

The transition from old-skool looks to a modern water-cooled twin is a bit jarring for my money. The alternative would have been the neo-retro direction of the Z650rs or my XSR Smile
