Any owners on board?

I've tried a load of bikes on for size, and the MT09 is the front runner.

Use would be commuting and general fun and I'm looking at reliability, longevity, servicing etc. etc.

Your experiences please.

Have an SP on my Autotrader ‘like’ list, along with loads of other things, so would be interested too.

Ridden an original and a newer model, brilliant bike.

Imho... needs a screen of some sort for motorways.

What about the Tracer? Isn't it essentially the same bike but with a fairing?

I had the street ralley for 12 months or so.. fcukin hated the basbastard thing .. will never buy a triple again.. throttle response was totally unpredictable and suspension was like a pogo stick on a rocking horse crossed wit a wonky wheeled shopping trolley.. never again.!!!

Ok, i'll bite

If it was so bad, why on earth did you keep it for 12 months or so?

On another note. i'd never heard of the MT-09 street rally, but it actually looks pretty decent, certainly improves on the usual MT "transformer looks" at the front end

Yep, agree 100% with you there, love the old XSR900, but that new one looks like a badly streetfighter'd sportsbike

i have revisited my records.. dates are.. bought 01.03.2015 - and sold 01.09.2015
i tried the Kev. mod plug in thing from Australia .. filing the throttle tube lobe to a more friendly profile .. taking up the slack in the throttle cables .. . and finally a ECU. flash from yamaha... still crap.. suspension was a lost cause.... last but not least.. i did not like the way the engine delivered its power .. torque kicked in from a very early rpm. and by 2-3k it was unpredictable fierce..

how long or quick exactly do you expect me to keep a new bike i don`t like ?

Cranks don’t last either, same as the newer R1, but I believe they can be changed with the engine in the frame as the bottom case isn’t attached to the frame.

Iirc. The issue relates to end float.. resolved by a cresent shaped washers which hold the crank in place.. stopping it making contact with the balancer shaft..

Ok, 6 months i get, but you did initially say "12 months or so"

What i will say though, is not all triples are the same, the Triumph Street Triple has an nicely linear power delivery, and still revs out to 12,000 odd rpm, and pulls all the way there

i bought a cb1000r abs 4 cylinder predictability ... excellent suspension once it was professionally set-up , brakes .. once the pads were replaced by sbs. items and wheels from a fireblade..

i now also keep an mt-10 .. wants the same suspension & brake pads doin to it .. predictable power delivery from an engine design I'm familar with .. not interested in triples .. once bitten twice shy !

Agreed there's not much 'pretty stuff' to look at is there?

The previous RD/FZ speed-block inspired did a least look better than this TZR(?) inspired version.

I’m glad it’s not just me that thinks that XSR is gopping

I mean I like retro but that’s the wrong retro for me. Like wanting a period house but getting a 50’s prefab.
