Hi all,

This is my first time posting here, but i have come across something that i would like to get advice on.

After taking my Hornet for a ride the other day I noticed a small amount of water coming out of the breather pipe by the exhaust (larger diameter one).

Is this normal as i have not noticed it before, hence the question!

Cheers,

Where does the breather connect to the engine?

The taste test is always my first go-to method. I've had worse fluids in my mouth before now than anything you'd expect to come from a motorbike Thinking

Really.

Sniff and taste is always my preferred check too.

Nothing that comes out of / off my bike tastes worse than Marmite and people eat that shite.

Sniff it to see what it smells like? Yes maybe if that helps, but taste it? That's frankly stupid. I'd expect it from jaffa90 because he gives frankly stupid advice on here and TravisBickle is on his way past Barking to full on Upminster but really??

OP don't put the stuff that drips out of any part of your bike into your mouth. Work out where it comes from logically.

Expansion tank is under the seat, see if it connects to here, they are a pretty basic bike, so you should be able to trace it without having to remove much off the bike, usually just give the pipe a wiggle at one end and see if it moves at t'other end

Have you recently topped up the coolant?

There's a fuel cap drain, to drain off excess fuel or rain water that can leak past the cap. It will be attached to a spigot at the bottom of the tank.

Thanks for the replies!

After checking the fluid it was odourless.

I have followed the pipe and it in fact leads to the rear of the fuel tank. I have also taken two pictures to highlight the pipe in question and where it leads too.

I also checked coolant and it seems to be fine. I suppose this is normal?

Cheers,

Add

If it's anything like my bike it'll be a drain for around the fuel cap so rain doesn't collect there.

Lets simplify things. If it's not fuel, oil or coolant which are all coloured or smelly.... In the words of the song 'Don't worry, be happy'. Thumbs Up

There's a degree of common sense expected here.

Petrol = dead giveaway
Oil = the same
Coolant = taste but not smell.
AC condensate - no taste no smell.
And then there's plain old water.

Let's be clear - a drop on your tongue is not going to fuck up your renal system and most of us have had petrol or diesel in our mouths at some point I'm sure.

It's about common sense. Unlike eating marmite, which is just wrong.

Indeed. Colourless and odourless. However it's immediately recognizable regrettable on a taste test.

Or maybe a dog pissed up it...

"What does it taste like?"

That's why grown-ups are advised to keep chemicals and medicines out of reach of children.
Children don't understand the risks.

Very Happy

Wrong. It only smells like that when it's reacting with something like iron. Sulfuric acid is odourless - well apart from the fumes burning all of those delicate mucous linings as you inhale it of course - which isn't smell just a sudden painful burning...

What harm could a couple of drips do?
