First post on BCF so let me know if I've posted in the wrong area.

I've been trying to find the manual for a motorbike I am doing up. I know it is a Honda CG125 and that it was first registered in the UK in 2001. Reading online the advice has been to take the seat off and it should show which Honda CG125 it is.

The label under the seat reads:

CG125S
COLOR R-40
CODE R4

I also have the frame and engine numbers, however these don't match any of the numbers in online manuals I have been looking at, namely https://die-kleinkraftrad-ig.de/wissensdatenbank/reparaturanleitungcg125.pdf

Not sure if it safe to post my full frame and engine numbers so I will just post the first few numbers:

Frame number: CG125 557
Engine number: CG125E-040

The guy who sold it to me said it was made in 1995 and imported from Asia. He seemed to think it was manufactured for the Chinese postal service. The gearing run's opposite to standard motorbike gears. From top down it's N 1 - 2 - 3 - 4 which I quite enjoy.

I'm planning to spend this winter restoring it as it's quite rusty and the engine seems to get stuck revving high after I have been out on a ride and got over a certain amount of revs. I'd like to follow a manual in order to set everything to the recommended factory settings.

Apologies for the long post, in short any help identifying exactly the model of Honda CG125 I have would be greatly appreciated so that I can find the correct manual to follow for repairs.

Many thanks,
Dunc

It could be a clone.
They were also made in Brazil. For world markets.

What does the V5 say?

If you have the frame number then a good shot would be to ask a Honda dealer for help.

If the lable says
CG125S
COLOR R-40
CODE R4

It is a CG125s but what market?? no idea maybe Honda but could be a clone But the two later lines look like a Honda colour code So my guess is Honda CG125S for an Asian market Is there a vin plate ?? if so look at the manufactures name if Honda it will say where produced but not all Asian honda's have vin plates

Need a photo.

I think it's one of the old style Japanese made CGs imported by David Silvers but need a photo to be sure.

Wow didn't expect so many replies so quickly.

Thanks all for taking a look, much appreciated.

@davebike it does have a VIN plate, it reads:

MFD BY: HONDA MOTOR CO., LTD.
MODEL:CG125 GVWR: 228kg
RATED POWER: 7.3kw CARGO LOAD: 4,5kg
VIN: CG125-574XXXX
MFD IN: '98-07 MADE IN JAPAN

So it looks like it was made in Japan between 98-07.

@sickpup + Polarbear I have attached some photographs of the bike. Sickpup it looks identical to the picture you posted, just not in as good shape.

Looks like you've got a broken exhaust stud

With its non standard gearing
It may well be a Sundiro SDH125-7E
these were made under licence in China
by yes, you guessed it, Sundiro Honda Motorcycle Co. Ltd.
or by Wuyang Honda as the WY125-19
Both called the CG125 CDI.

I wouldn't sweat the small stuff though
Its a pre electric start CG125 with 12v electrics and CDI ignition
You couldn't find a much simpler machine to work on and spares will be easy
to source.

So is it a proper Honda or a 50 shades of grey Honda?
