not got one yet - I've never needed to retap anything before, but I thought I'd check before I went shopping.

That's an NPT (National Pipe Thread USA standards) thread. NPT uses a tapered profile to augment sealing properties. (BSP (British Standard Pipe) uses a parallel profile.)

But I would need a banana next to it to guess the size.

NPT (most pipe threads) use the inside diameter of the pipe it is used on as the description size.

e.g.
1/8" NPT is for pipes/tubes with inside diameter of 1/8" ("= Inch).
1/4" Baptist for pipes with inside diameter of 1/4".

Nominal sizes. 1/8, 1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8" and so on.

Taps and Dies easily available in U.K. eBay/Bezozon and smaller specialist engineering suppliers.

I think 1/8 bspt (British standard pipe thread) is pretty standard for pressure switch threads - I always use a few turns of PTFE tape to ensure a good seal with mine. Thumbs Up

1/8th npt is what I've found on Honda oil pressure switches
I think I still have a tap somewhere.
Remember its a tapered thread so don't go mad
and over tighten them or it's tears before bedtime.

Almost certainly not a Honda way of doing things but a lot of engines I deal with use the block as an negative return and you cant use ptfe as it isolates the switch. Easy to tell though, one connection, block return, two connections, negative wire return.

I have to say I find it most odd that the Japanese would use a thread sized in inches, when they have been totally metric since the war ( maybe before?), and there are plenty of metric sizes to go at, but NPT it may be . Here is a list I kept that I thought would be useful. Part numbers are Intermotor - available at any motor factors.

As long as you don't go mad and cover the washer and flange, you should get good contact. Thumbs Up

Once again chaps many thanks - some quality input there for sure. I'm going to take it VERY easy with lots of lube ( I told her!) - I suspect the PO just kept tightening up the the old switch not realising it was tapered till it broke apart. 'Tis in a bugger of a position to get to but I'm going slow. Cheers All.
