Posted: 14:57 - 23 Nov 2021 Post subject: Keeway superlight 125 project advice needed |
|
|
Hi,
I've receny bought a keeway superlight 125 on ebay as a project.
I've been ripped off and I know it but now I'm left with an absolute junk to work with.
It was a false advertisement and I got some refund.
Basically, when it got it delivered, everything on the bike was loose and disconnected.
I have no idea why the seller has done this to the bike but it is what it is now.
I'm now trying to connect the fuel tank so I can check if the engine is working at all. However, when I look under the tank, I see 2 connection points?
I've attached a few pictures so someone can see and advice on this.
I have also attached a couple of other pictures as I don't have a clue what those are.
I hope someone can advice on this issue.

Picture of unknown. What Is this? it has 2 broken hoses sticking out of it!

what is this? is this related to the image above?

Finally, what is this?

I hope it was cheap btw
I'll give you points for attempting to add pics but
they're too feckin big!
resize them to say a max of 1024 not 3024x4032 and 3.39 meg
it doesn't help.
your first pic resized to 600x800 and 130K
instead of 3024x4032

You've not shown us much but it does look a bit of a state I had one of these as a salvage jobbie so I know them pretty well.
Picture 1, tank underside
Fat pipe is the fuel line, the fuel pump is internal to the tank. The two pipes that 'Y' into is to effectively create a returnless system where overpressure can just feed back into the tank. You're missing loads of pipe clips (notice the witness marks on the rubber.) Thin pipe is a breather, connects to that little round vapor trap. The wire at the bottom is for the fuel level sensor.
Picture 2, "thing with the hoses"
This is part of the Evaporative Emission System. Unfortunately this area of the bike functionality is poorly documented. IIRC correctly one pipe goes to the airbox and the goes to...
Picture 3, "loose item"
Most likely the Evap Purge Control (EPC) valve, connected to the previous system. I don't recall where the other end goes I can only suggest eyeballing a similarly engine bike.
Picture 4, fuel filter and throttle body
Yes, that's the fuel filter. The brass bit slicking out of the throttle body probably means you're missing the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)
The thing to bear in mind with this era of Chinese bike is they're basically the earlier carb ones with retro-fitted EFI and emissions systems. I'd have a long hard think about whether what you have is worth the effort of resurrecting.

Thanks everyone for the reply.
at this point, I'm just trying to find out if the engine is working at all and without connecting all these bits and bobs, I can't even start the engine.
I honestly don't understand why this guy's treated this poor bike like this!
He didn't really need to cut all these pipes and wires! it makes no sense to me.
I'm gonna read all of your comments a few times and let it all sink in & then try to find some cheap bits for it to see if I can get engine going before I do anything else to it.
As one of you already said, yes, indeed its in a right state.
When I got it delivered and I looked at it, I said to myself, WTF have I done!
I ended up paying £70 for the bike and £138 for it to be delivered.
if the eBay seller was honest and mentioned everything about the bike, I wouldn't have bought it.
But hey ho, now its here so I feel like I have to get it going.
I've seen people restoring bikes found in the bottom of lakes or in barns from 1980s. |

Thanks mate. appreciate your reply.
Do you know anywhere I could buy these pipe clips?
Also, where's the round vapor trap? am I missing something? |

That "vapor trap" is that round thing on the bottom left of the tank picture. The breather pipe needs to connect to the side of it. I'm not sure if it's an emissions thing or just to stop damp getting back in the tank.
This might help:
https://www.superlightpartscentre.com/
The parts diagrams are a bit ropey but better than nothing. I'd just use the site for reference and see if you can source generic or second hand parts elsewhere. That being said when I did use these guys a few years ago when I was fixing up mine they were very helpful as they emailed me the attached guides whereas I couldn't get shit out of Moto GB - parts or info - hope they might be of help
p.s. the workshop manual is terrible, note the EFI is an addendum at the back as is the wiring diagram which is the most useful thing in there. ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |
