I want to buy an Optimate trickle charger for my son's Xmas box for his bike... but which one?

https://www.optimate.co.uk/products?tag=Motorcycle%20Chargers

There are so many of them! Apart from the obvious things like 'lithium' and 'Duo', I'm struggling to tell them apart. Normally with products like this the manufacturer's website gives you a comparison chart with ticks to show clearly exactly what features each model has over the next one down, but in the case the manufacturer's website is remarkably shit!

Personally I have an Optimate 4 which is fine for my needs (can't remember why I went for that one now); but rather than just buy another one the same I'd prefer to know what the differences are.

Anybody?

I have an Oximiser 900 (different brand, don't know how brand-focussed you are)

https://www.oxfordproducts.com/motorcycle/brands/oxford/battery_care_and_power_accessories/oximiser_888_anniversary_edition_uk/

Seems to work well; used it on several bikes and for 3 years or so, simple to use. Comes with a quick-connect harness so you can wire up a plug to the battery with a tail for easy connecting (they may all come with this of course). It was inexpensive from SBS, circa £30 I think.

This help?
https://www.42moto.com/optimate-battery-chargers-comparison

also see

and from this very site

I do agree though that the Optimate site is crap and should have it's own comparison table.

Ive got the CTEK XS 0.8 12V, I know its not an Optimate but seems good

With bike batteries only being so small, you dont really need a 5A+ etc charger, everything else seemed like a waste of money if only using on a bike, its a proper intelligent charger but just low amp, comes with a fly lead too so you dont have to use crocodile clips

I have recently bought two Optimates and have been a bit disappointed with the quality of the lead - on one I can see bear copper wire inside. I treat these kinds of appliances pretty carefully for obvious reasons, but also because they're not overly cheap. They never get abused, and I'm the only person that has access to my garage, so am pretty bamboozled as to how any stress or strain can have occurred. NB the bear wire is visible exactly where the cable comes out of the charger. I've only had it for about three weeks.
