I'd rather people went down the EV route than this.
As we all already know, classic bikes and classic cars demand a lot of care, maturity and responsibility to keep them maintained and roadworthy. They're untaxed because they're hardly ever used, so their emissions are extremely low. And bikes, in particular, demand a hefty dose of common sense: don't use a low gear in densely populated area, plan your braking, don't make obvious and obnoxious modifications, etc. It won't take much for the historic exemption to be regarded as a loophole that needs to be closed up. I hope they stay hobby/enthusiast machines and aren't seriously seen as a cheap means of commuting into cities. There isn't actually much wrong with trains and buses. |
