LEV, bike's get the shaft

the electric (plug-in) vehicle grant for 2w has changed from this morning, and 2 wheelers get shafted as usual

L1 moped class LEV now reduced from 20%, to 35% with a £150 limit

L3 motorcycles class, reduced from 20% to 35% with a £500 limit



so that £4000 LEV off a £20k Zero will now be reduced to £500

even less likely to buy one than before, which was pretty much not at all

It's pretty obvious at this point the government wants bikes off the roads. Gotta help out large companies developing self-driving cars...

Interesting approach, increasing the percentage but capping the total amount of grant. Also only applicable to bikes worth £10k or less.

So if a theoretic 125-equivant bike cost £1500, the grant would knock off £500. On the previous 20% system it would have knocked off £300.

Of course, there are no electric bikes for £1500, and won't be for a while. Prices seem to start north of 5 grand for something like a super soco, and north of 10 grand for something worth riding.

So it looks the change is to incentivise cheap, slow electric bikes that don't exist yet.
