If someone is uninsured or was not driving in accordance with their driving licence then the vehicle's getting seized.

He would have to take all his documents to get his bike back. And £200.

I think it's under Section 165A of the Road Traffic Act 1988.

How has this thread got to page 2 when the original poster has long ago run off screaming?

Just as an aside to folk saying turn up with your insurance docs etc etc.

Lots of policies don't cover impounded vehicles. So his own insurance may not be adequate to get the bike out.

Last time I recovered a vehicle I had to get an email from my company saying I was covered using my 3rd party extention and they covered impounded vehicles.

You can get specific cover but it runs to thousands of pounds per month for cover.

It's not always as straightforward as you imagine, the cunts have to get paid etc etc.

The 3rd party insurance is to prove its legal on the road. I would expect that they will still have to pay any fees due and you don't need insurance for that, just a wallet.

I got pulled with a pillion on a 125cc, I had passed my test about 6 weeks earlier, but had not sent off for my full licence and just kept the pass certificate in my pocket. I was given a NIP, but it was quashed when I sent off for the full licence. I was allowed to carry on with the pillion. police were odd 40 years ago.

they will always cover the vehicle itself that's on the policy for getting it out of the pound, it specifically excludes using the "any other car" clause for that purpose
