lexmoto assault 125 efi 2020

Owed this bike from new (bought for my son, now up to 5000 on the clock), up to date with servicing from the dealer, however, the engine has slowly been losing power, difficult to start, cut out on tick over once ridden for less than a 100 yards.

I'm a qualified Plant mechanic, left the bike alone because of the warranty. After several visits to the dealer, and my son being late for work, I opened my toolbox. It tuned out to be no valve clearance, tappets solid, valves not fully closing. Easy to adjust once tank removed, engine (luckily, could have damaged valves) now purring like a kitten, power restored. Has anyone else experienced the same problem?

Sounds like the valves are wearing the valve seats excessively.

Yes, could be? Let's see how long she runs before more adjustment is required. This bike has a hard life, long steep hills, everyday rough riding, we will see?

[Easy-X]

From my experience of Chinese 125s to get the best out of them they need a minor service every 6 months, i.e. valve clearances, oil change, inspect plugs & air filter. Certainly for the mileage you've managed.

Bikes like this have very small valve clearances, they should be 3 thou if what I looked up is correct. It's probable that as the machined faces of both valve and seat have bedded in that the clearances have closed up- it should have been checked and reset at one of the early services. Thats dealers for you.
