I have been pondering recently how I do think there is still a place for forums; social media is all very "shouty" and convenient, but it's also very "here and now" and isn't particularly useful as a resource, which is where forums win out I think. You can easily retrieve an old topic and find information, whereas social media (unless I'm totally hapless at using it) tends to throw stuff into an approximately date order, but with seemingly random curve balls, making it almost impossible to find something more than a few hours old unless you're tagged in it.

A friend posted a meme on their Facebook timeline and I tagged on a comment. I swiped wrong on my phone and lost the notification of his reply and now I can't find the post at all!

Dig into an activity report and it's logged that I commented but no option to click and get through to the original post. Did it get deleted? Who knows. No wonder their share price fell off a cliff, service has just got shitter over the last couple of years

When I reg'd it was pretty busy, but probably not quite what it was a couple of years before that. However, the last few years it's got comparatively slow and has nowhere near the level of activity it used to.

If I think back to bbq i went to in northampton (can't remember the year without wracking me braincell but it was around 7 years ago I'd guess) - I say only one in ten of those people still post. Maybe even in one in twenty.
