Does this plug look ok?

Trying to sort out the fueling on a 50cc, it starts on the button sometimes and runs fine but then occasionally it won’t start at all on the button the barely runs at all when I bump it and once it does start I have to wind the throttle totally back and hold it there or it’ll die, then eventually it will Rev up.

It’s getting fuel as I’ve tried to undo the overflow on the carb and it leaks out of that.

Any suggestions as to why it has the running issue?

Almost like it’s getting either too much are or too much fuel?

What bike?

Fueling can't change that dramatically if it starts fine sometimes and not others. what sort of fuel tap does it have?

Does it start fine when cold or hot?

Do you mean overflow or drain screw? Fuel shouldn't be coming out of an overflow.

It’s a Rieju with the AM6 50 engine.

Does it hot and cold, has a vacuum fed tap, a new one, comes out of the drain when I undo the tap.

The drain on the fuel tap? It shouldn't have a drain.

The drain on the bottom of the carb, you unscrew it and fuel comes out! Most carbs have them!!

Yes I know. Your comment was unclear on whether you were talking about that because you referred to a tap and an overflow. Rather than a drain and a screw.

Is the vacuum pipe in good condition and a good seal at each end?

The vacuum petcock is new and yes they are tight, the reason I mentioned the tap was because I checked that when it wouldn’t start to see if there was fuel in there to try and cross that off.

Does the tap have a 'prime' position?

No, nothing on the petcock and nothing on the carb.

The bike has the issue all the time now, it struggles to start but does start with no throttle, as soon as I touch the throttle to give it any revs it will die, also the mixture screw and idle screw do nothing!

Looking like a carb issue.

Thats not a fueling issue with a carb. They dont sometimes work fine and at others not at all unless there's a reason that fuel isn't going into the carb.

Hi again, "" but does start with no throttle""
That tells me the pilot jet is letting fuel through with part opening of the butterfly flap / carb slide / piston. Opening it more (more throttle) should pick up more fuel from the main jet.
I suggest that the carb should be serviced and an inline fuel filter fitted to see what is going on.

Made a quick video to hopefully explain, this is warm, choke does nothing either way. Won’t start when on throttle!

That’s doing the opposite of what I thought you meant originally. It dies with throttle. Air leak?

Try OIL SPRAY (to be on the safe side) direct into the carb inlet and open the throttle when on tick over/ idle.

Has this started happening since the start of winter? Sounds to me like it could be condensation collecting in the float bowl.

Still no joy today

Tried some fresh fuel in a separate tank - no joy
Tried a new plug -no joy
Tried spraying pre-mix around carb with throttle open - no joy
Checked all the jets - all clear
Tried without filter - no joy
Tried blocking air filter intake - no joy

I have taken the carb off again, to check gallery’s and all clear, the float has no adjustment as it’s made of plastic.

As can be seen in the video, it’s from tickover to anything above, could it be anything to do with the reeds or needle height? I haven’t touched either as yet but I’m struggling here

No around the carb was checking for air leaks to see if there was any change.

Put the carb back together and no change! Tried spraying fuel in the carb, no change, seems to be getting plenty of fuel!

Just took the silencer off and it now revs up! It lingers low down it the revs around 3000 revs, then drops down to 2000 revs after around 30 seconds but with the silencer removed it actually revs up, it feels very lazy low in the revs and not responsive at all, but high in the revs it pulls ok.

Could it be over fuelling?
