Can't see what is to be gained by it myself. Surely better to just ignore those you don't like on the internet. It's not like you have to spend time in their company.

That's what the Karma system is there for.

Maybe, but I think it better if you just ignore those who you don't like. I mean, do you want to read what they post? Do you think by now you're going to like them at some point?

Depends on whether you want to enter into an argument or not. Some days you might, other days you might not. Falling foul of one person doesn't usually kill your karma but falling foul of everyone generally does.

Which is why the Karma system works as well as it does.

So if you're going to be a complete wind up merchant and then get found out and you didn't bother to mask all your publicly searchable data and then someone posts it ... you've no one to blame but yourself.

Back to not being a c**t. Which is completely different to not being well liked / popular.

And do you think someone should post it? Go look for it in the first place? Some folks need to take a good look at themselves.

And you can only wind someone up if they're paying attention to you. As well as the karma system, there is an enemy button to block people with. Give it a try and be happier! And don't give me that bollocks about, "oh, that's censorship!" Rolling Eyes

Conversely, if everyone apart from a couple of their fellow conspiricy theory nuts/acolytes enema someone who has views that offend basic humanity then they end up in a echo chamber where only their own views get reflected back at them.

So? Let 'em. What's the problem?
"Echo chamber" is definitely an 'in' phrase at the moment, isn't it? Laughing

So are we all in general agreement that we need more moderation, then?

I nominate everyone in this thread for the ban-hammer...

Hi

There is a good argument for letting the haters speak to display there ignorance.

But doing so also gives them a platform to publicise the ignorance based opinions.

This thread is a major example. Complete rubbish written by some who when challanged just move the gate posts a touch.

Can people argue against it? Only up to a point, after which dealing with apologists for hate just further screws up their mental health.

BCF has changed over the years. From a pretty anarchistic mickey taking site to something that is closer to the comments section on the Daily Mail web site.

For me the complete rubbish written by some regular posters in areas I do know about colours my feeling for similar styles of writing about areas I know far less about.

All the best

Katy

An intersting point came up in one of the footy forums I go on. Nasty behaviour was on the increase in football grounds. By that I don't mean violence but nasty chanting, picking on players for whatever they can be picked on for and how opposition fans are treated.

There has always been banter and pizz taking at football matches but violence died out pretty much before 2000. Now the nastiness is rising across the board, not just in one or two clubs, but in general. I feel it's the same in society in general.

What's the answer? I have no idea. Everywhere you look it's pick on people. Witch hunts from all quarters.

Now I'm off to burn an effigy of 'insert required name here'.

Probably true that nastiness has increased.

But at what point is it acceptable to be seen to pick on someone for their picking on others?

All the best

It has got more personal and people take it more personally. Probably cos there's 53 more types of people than before so now you're always insulting someone even if you weren't intending to.

Or something like that.

I dont think I've got any more or less argumentative although 2 years of reduced social contact can't have done my dwindling people skills any favours Very Happy
