Hi,
My scooter just stopped working whilst I was at the lights. It was running fine just before it died on me but not it won’t start. The starter works, the starter turns, I changed the spark plug and the CDI (because I had a spare brand new one to try out). I don’t get a spark though. I’m thinking it may be the stater assembly & flywheel that’s packed in but I don’t want to have to take half the scooter apart to change it and then find it’s something else. Can anyone please advise (without the obvious, ‘Get rid of your lawnmower and buy a proper bike’, or ‘just push it off a cliff and walk instead!’ Comments!Wink ). I cannot afford to buy anything better and I’m disabled so I can’t walk or ride a bike for any meaningful distance, so I need my scooter. Only helpful comments please. Thanks in advance.

Assuming the cdi and plug are ok
( and you haven't just run out of fuel or the pump stopped!)
I'd be checking/bypassing the side stand switch first
as this is a pretty common problem.

Pulsers are easily checked without stripping down the motor
by opening the connector and reading the resistance across the pins

You'd normally get say 200-300 ohms from the coil if in good state
a failed one will often show as short or very high open circuit

Course, you could always burn it and send it to hell Razz

If you're not getting spark I'd look at all the safety lockout switches. For example a lot of scooters need you to pull either or both the brake levers or they won't start.

Good shout! If it's an automatic vacuum type fuel valve it might be a simple a split hose.

My fuel tap failed 30,000km in.
Manifold/reed block shortly after.

Shit itself at the traffic lights both times.
