Hi,

I wanted to do my first filter and oil change but usual places like ECP don't stock them, do you normally get them online or would Halfords "motorbike oils" do it?

The service manual recommends below:

SUGGESTED OIL:
Honda "4-stroke motorcycle oil" or an equivalent
OIL RECOMMENDATION:
API classification: SG or higher (except oils labeled
energy conserving on the circular API service
label)
Viscosity: SAE 10W-30
JASO T 903 standard: MA

Would any 10W-30 oil (cars) do it or does it have to be specific for motorbikes?

Nothing wrong with Halfords.

Bike specific stuff is ideal, even Halfrauds own bike stuff is fine. I'd just get the cheapest semi synthetic stuff and a filter making sure its got no shitty additives in it, so halfords bike stuff would be fine.

The fancy oils would only make a difference to a highly strung race bike, IMHO. Get the basic stuff.

Car oils can work if they're nothing fancy but they're not made with a wet-clutch in mind, best avoided.

Thanks for the response guys

so any motorbike oil will do as long as it is 10W-30 or 10W-40 (Manual recommends both depending on millage) and get filter from Ebay (I am assuming) as Halfords don't have them

Filters are cheap, try to get a decent one, even OEM one.

I always run 10w40, I haven't ever run anything other than that.

Wemoto will have all of the service spares you need. I use Comma Eurolite semi synth - it's reasonable cheap and good quality.

Any semi synth 10-40 bike oil. The thing is change it more often than less often if you get my meaning.

Saying that I always put fancy oil in my Triumph and cheapy oil in the Fazer hack. Both are still running fine so make of that what you will.

Stick with motorcycle oils. You'll probably be ok with a lower power bike with car oil, but those oils have fricition modifiers (moly) that typically don't work well with wet clutches.

I never had an issue with the exup valdes and any old semi synth that I'd bought from whereever. I never bought any specifically bike engine oil for it.

Ordered oil and oil filter hopefully, they arrive before the weekend.

Next on my do list is changing/flushing the coolant, does anyone know what colour of coolant this bike takes (Orange or Blue)?

You have a torque wrench and new sump plug washer !

Oil and filter change is dead basic service. Air filter, fuel filter, plugs, valve clearance and chains, and that's just the basic engine service, throttle, clutch, Speedo and any other cable etc. Etc. Etc. Etc .etc.

Little and often, add an additional item to your weekly checks...

Weekly I hear you say? Yes weekly...

Yes I do have a torque wrench and will get sum plug washer if old one isnt in good shape.

I can handle Air filter, fuel filter, plugs, chains, service, throttle, clutch, Speedo and any other cable BUT valve clearance is something I never attempted.

Visit CMSNL and determine method, screws and locknuts, shim or bucket shim.

Bucket shim, the adjusting shim under the bucket is quite involved needing cam shaft removal etc..
