I have this Zanussi that's a few years old and as far as I can make out (not knowing much about gas appliances) the hob works on a system of heating an electrical thermocouple and if the flame went out the supply to that ring would be cut off. Sounds like a sensible safety feature...
After a couple of years the rings just wouldn't light. I discovered heating the thermocouples manually with something like a pocket butane torch would "start off" the process and the ring would remain lit. Over time this just got worse until I replaced all the thermocouples with new ones.
Now it's doing the same thing again Do these thermocouples only last a few years or do I just have a crap cooker? ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

I think you have a crap cooker or there is something wrong with the placement of the thermal cutouts, I've never had one go wrong on a gas cooker. Maybe they are too near the flame and become damaged over time?
*Edit: or not near enough to the flame and not getting hot enough. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Dodgy this and dodgy that on a gas cooker?
Hmmm? Not good.
Surely there has to be a time to get a new one?
Or will there be a thread on here?, “did you hear about Mr Easy X ?”
“His house was destroyed in a gas explosion because of a dodgy cooker”
I’d be inclined not to muck about with a gas cooker or mains gas as I’m not an expert.

I once owned a smeg range cooker (married days) that only my wife could light - it was weird out of six burners I could only light two but she could light them all - easily, no clue how except she had a knack and I didn't.. it had thermocouple cut-outs.
Buy a new hob - they're cheap enough IIRC. ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750
