Hello,
I had a minor accident and broke the right foot rest on my YBR250. Genuine parts cost £30+ including shipping, but I saw generic replacements for £13. I'm having trouble getting sellers to send me measurements for the mount points so I can check for fit. In general is it safe to use any replacement foot rest as long as the fit is ok?

Yeah, there's nothing wrong with using pattern parts generally, as long as it's the right one for the bike and the quality is ok. I've used them for things like replacement mirrors without an issue.

Double check everything is exactly the same; pattern parts are sometimes labelled as generically for a given bike, but sometimes there are subtle variations during a bike's life as the manufacturer revises things. I've come a cropper before now with things like this when it comes to pattern parts (to be fair, for what you're talking about it seems pretty unlikely there would be any change though).

It finally arrived this week. Despite being a different part number and not advertised as being suitable for my bike, the dimensions were nearly identical to my original part and it looked like it could have come from the same original supplier to Yamaha. Glad I paid just £10 for the generic part instead of £40 from a stockist of guaranteed fit Yamaha originals...
