My bike was involved in a minor accident and was then classed as a Cat C by the insurers.
All the damage was cosmetic but seems insurers couldnt be bothered.
I got my bike back and put it through an MOT which it passed.
But after I re taxed it it is still classed as SORN by the DVLA.
The insurers has since gone bust so I dont know what to do about getting this SORN removed.
Does anyone have any idea what I can do please?
I have the bike insured by someone else but cannot tax it.

If it's taxed it's not on SORN any longer. You can't tax without insurance in place thought. SORN is nothing to do with your insurance company, it's merely a declaration that the vehicle is off the road ans therefore not subject to tax, mot and insurance requirements.

I spoke to DVLA and they said it is because the insurers scrapped the bike. It cannot be taxed.
Even though the DVLA took the Tax payment a month ago.
The insurers MCE when bust the other week so I dont know what to do.

Oh dear... That's a real pain to sort. You might need to put the bike through an SVA or something. Cat C is an old style rating, as they are now S and N and things like that. A cat C could go back onto the road at the time but I've heard of difficulties like this. Sometimes you need an engineers report to say the bike is fit for the road.

Here it says category S (which replaces category C) can't go back on the road unless it's professionally repaired so I'd say that probably means you need an engineer report or something...

This seems like it might be helpful:

I have no idea, but the first task for you is to find out who needs the report. It's either the DVLA or insurance company who wrote it off or something, then you can find out what report will be accepted. Try to think of the earliest step you need to follow and extrapolate from there. I'd guess it's the DVLA Maybe? I'd be contacting them and ensuring that I stay on the line with them until I get an answer.

Questions for them:

How do I cancel the SORN?

Do I need an engineers report?

Who do I submit the engineers report to and how?

What engineers report would be acceptable? Can any garage do it? Can they confirm that an MOT is not enough?

If it were me I might see if they have a live chat as I often get better results from that than actual phone calls. It definitely is something of a pickle.

Cat C hasn't existed for years, it's A, B, S or N. A and B are scrapper categories, S and N are repairable S being structurally damaged and N being non-structural.

What do you mean by 'couldn't be bothered'? Did you get paid out the value of the bike? Was it minus an agreed salvage value? Have you got any paperwork or other correspondence stating what they have settled you for? Where is the V5C?
