Nope, he was impeached on one occassion and acquitted, and as far as I can tell, the second attempt at impeaching him never had any legs, as it was decided that he would already be out of the office, and Brandon would have taken over by the time it was processed, so it never went ahead.

I was mistakenly under the impression that if he was aquitted it didn't count, but apparently Impeachement is the court 'process', which did in fact take place.

In two cases and was impeached each time.

Funny how the word "impeachment" seems to be more important than what actually happened.
A term used for political convenience, the actual reasons for it have devalued it, since it was misused.

It's lucky Trump wasn't convicted. American politics is divided enough already without one side starting the ball rolling on locking the other up and then following through. Remember, Trump was elected on a similar mandate of chucking his opponent in a cell.

Germans say the pipeline will now be stopped as the invasion has begun. We all know the German's will just reopen Nord Stream 2 in the future , and so does Putin Laughing

Doesn't look like a full invasion yet though.

Nordstream 2, although complete, hasn't been started yet, it's approval for use was rejected a while ago.

Spot the difference.

Germany: Olaf Scholtz - we have stoped Nord Stream 2 that will contribute 2.7 billion euros to the Russian GDP.

UK: Johnson - we will sanction 5 banks that are NOT in the Top 10 Russian banks list and 3 oligarchs repeat 3 oligarchs that already are in 2018 list. Laughing Laughing Laughing

UK media: all heil the hero Johnson Laughing

German energy regulator suspended its certification process

No the certification has been temporary suspended which is different than stopping it.

Now Germany decided as part of the sanctions to stop it permanently:

Quote:
Washington welcomed Scholz's announcement, saying it had been in close consultation with the German government overnight.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba tweeted his approval.

"This is a morally, politically and practically correct step in the current circumstances," he said. "True leadership means tough decisions in difficult times. Germany's move proves just that."

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said he had asked the economy ministry to make sure certification could not take place now.

"The appropriate departments ... will make a new assessment of the security of our supply in light of what has changed in last few days," he said.

Liz Truss:

Quote:
Strong response from @OlafScholz
suspending NordStream2.

We must hold Russia responsible for their actions, which will be met with severe costs. Europe must reduce its dependence on Russian gas.

So was or wasn't it stopped 3 months ago based on political pressure?

Making it permanant rather than temporarily doesn't alter the fact that Germany said months ago it wasn't going to approve it's use.

Germany NEVER said it will not approve Nordstream 2 before today's Olaf Scholtz announcement.
It was not stopped because of political pressure there was no statements about such thing. The only statements were about certification only.
There were temporary certification issues only.

As I have mentioned there was some delay in certifications not a permanent stop.

Quote:

"This a huge change for German foreign policy with massive implications for energy security and Berlin's broader position towards Moscow," said Marcel Dirsus, non-resident fellow at Kiel University's Institute for Security Policy.

So no this not something that has happened 3 months ago.

Can't wait to watch BBC and Sky news hailing Johnson as the true hero today Laughing

I don't think the UK should do anything. Not our problem. I'm not sure which is worse; a Europe ruled by the EU, or a Europe ruled by Putin. By this stage, I'm frankly ready to give Putin the benefit of the doubt Laughing

Tbh nordstream 2 being refused approval because of US pressure about, amongst other reasons, weakening Ukraine probably made Putin think he had nothing to lose by invading Ukraine.

Anyway, Germany isn’t the EU. Hungary may throw a spanner in the works due to the unanimity requirement, and Italy want to maintain fuel supplies.

At work we've been told to be extra vigilant for suspicious emails due to the ongoing situation. Can't recall getting a warning about the EU and cyber attacks.

The people on either side will want to get on with living their lives...y'know save for a holiday...meet up with mates and family...eat good grub. They'll not be wanting mass deaths and destroying homes.

Sociopaths like the current crop of world leaders are our problem and should be challenged at every opportunity....even if putting a cross in a box is the only option.

To turn backs and say it's not our problem isn't right.

I totally agree. Russia will steamroller where it wants because it regards us in the west as lost it. I hate how our country has become, time to cull wet tards.
