Wonderful. I'm sure you are proud of that fact.

"Ask Not What Your Country Can Do For You" What a joke nowadays. How quickly can a country self destruct.

I totally agree. Russia will steamroller where it wants because it regards us in the west as lost it. I hate how our country has become, time to cull wet tards.

Peace through strength. War through weakness.

Why don't you have a passport? Confused

Also I have a lot of respect for the Russians, they are a strong and proud country.

Note Germany is not going to certify the pipeline at this time.

When they start scrapping the pipeline, then they are serious. Right now Putin knows Germany will eventually certify, they will just wait a year or 2.

Of course they will. It's a lot cheaper than LNG ships which charter at $150,000 a day at the moment.

Money counts

The UK has at first targeted oligarchs at the heart of Putin’s inner circle and banks which bankrolled the Russian occupation of Crimea. More to come. No point targeting individuals and institutions which have FA to do with the current situation.

Of course, the sensible solution to this, which nobody will take because it's not about that is to get the UN involved and get both sides to agree to abide by a UN decision on where the boundry should be and re-define the Ukraine/Russia border.

I have a mate who used to work for them in the 'stans after the breakdown of the USSR and his job basically consisted of going into an area with a big team and asking people on and around the boundry area if they considered themselves to be of nationality A or B and where they lived and worked, shopped, socialised and where their land was. Once they had plenty of data, they could plot a least-worst boundry line.

I don't have a passport either. It's not that unusual.

Russians are the same as other people. Mostly decent, some arseholes.

Putain, however, is a colossal and dangerous cunt. As you'd expect from an ex-KGB officer.

The problem is that countries like China will flood an area with Chinese then ask the UN to redraw the border. Before you know it half of Siberia and India, and every Island in Asia, would all belong to the Chinese.

The Nuclear non-proliferation stuff is looking a lot like, we dont want people to have nukes as they might be harder to invade.

The question is if Ukraine still had nukes and Russia invaded anyway, would they have used them?

So Russia has launched a full scale invasion. We will now see how the west copes. I expect a big fat nothing other than posturing and TBH I don't really care that much except I'm sure we will have another 30 or 40 thousand refugees here in the not too distant future.

I'm thinking the western leaders are saying 'thank fuck we didn't admit them to NATO or we'd have to go to war over this. Val wii have to find a new way of bigging up Germany now they haven't managed to thwart Putin all by themselves. Rolling Eyes

It could be nasty or it could be a damp squib, we shall see.

As far as the BBC is concerned there are obviously more important things to worry about. The very next article on my news feed after the invasion one? Why are black Americans being punished for their hair?

We are one fucked up country.

On another site I go on someone wrote this which I think is true, even if an increadibly sad portrayal of how low we have got.

No surprise to me at all. I thought freezing three blokes’ ISAs might not put him off. Johnson will be blowing hard through his wobbling cheeks, upper and lower, the German bloke will apologise while checking the gas is coming through, Biden will need his potty emptying before his next nap and Macron will squeak a lot.

Putin is a standard dictator. The west has been asleep for years. It’s weak. If the Russians are to reform the USSR, now is the time. Their sphere of influence will be the old USSR border, less East Germany - and if I were them I’d demanding that as a bare minimum now. Might is right, sadly.

The russian people, or at least those at the top with so much to lose (their western privileges and playground) need to get a grip and drag that rabid piece of psychopathic filth out of its office, batter it into a grimy cell somewhere and put a bullet through its neck.

I'm not being defensive about it in the slightest.

Sounds like you are fishing for a juicy tidbit where there isn't one.

I don't care about Ukraine but Putin has basically used the fact Russia has nukes to use military force to cross a border. This is ballon goes up stuff.

The question is really is Putin and his cronies prepared to risk it. He's obviously already decided he's prepared to pay the price exacted politically and economically but how much further is prepared for.

But economically we can't really hurt him. He's self sufficient in fuel and pretty well in food since he changed direction for his economy after the Crimea invasion. He has one of the lowest national debts and one of the highest gold and currency reserves.

Anything the west does is going to hit us as hard as it hits him and the western people won't tolerate much more in price rises without it impacting on the governments. The want want want western society won't stand for its IPhones doubling in price. Russia doesn't have that problem.

TBF Ukraine I don't care about - and a wave of Ukrainian refugees would at least be more useful than the dinghy lot we're currently getting - but the reaction of the West will dictate China's next move against Taiwan.

Between the conception
And the creation
Between the emotion
And the response
Falls the Shadow

Apparently 60% of all the world's semiconductors are made in Taiwan and 90% of 'advanced semiconductors' (don't ask me what the difference is!) And if China take over it'll be much worse than Hong Kong...

This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a chip shortage.

I think a sinister statement by putin is not just that Russia intends to "de-nazify" Ukraine but also to "de-militarise". That does look like an indication they will head into the west of Ukraine. Likely a lot of the action against the Ukrainian military can be done via missiles but that would that achieve the total domination Putin seems to be aiming for?
