Just nosing through the military spending of various countries...

Obviously the US and China spend a lot but after that it's Saudi Arabia, Russia, UK, Germany, France, Japan, South Korea all spending comparable amounts Thinking

Okay so Russia have a lot of troops but given their spending it's very much the apocryphal scene from Enemy At The Gates Shocked

I am absolutly in awe at the utter naivity/stupidity of some people.

Britain's Defence Secretary Ben Wallace adds his voice to those calling on Russia to let Ukraine export its grain. Russia must "do the right thing", Wallace tells reporters in Madrid, where he's been meeting Spanish defence minister Margarita Robles. But he rejected Russia's demand to lift sanctions in order for it to free up exports.

Oh so you expect a country you are at war with to let grain exports out to feed the masses (and drop wheat prices) but won't give any concessions?

I would say stupid but I suppose it's all flag waving for the masses, basically telling them they are going to starve but it's for a good cause and not our fault.

AFAIK it's the fact that Russia have effectively taken control of the Black Sea - at least from the Ukrainian perspective - which begs the question: why not just ship it out via road through Poland and Romania?

Here in Saskatchewan trucking is only really used for short distances such as from the farm to the grain elevators, lots of short trips hauling around 20-30 tons. Large bulk movement is normally by rail and ship which collect from the regional elevators. I would presume being a similar large grain farming region they would operate the same and only have the infrastructure to transport via rail to ports and ship by sea.

Fair point but you'd think whoever had the foresight to train up the Ukrainian military before the war started might have also seen this coming Thinking

Seems I'm not the only one asking this question:

How can Ukraine export its harvest?

Here's the interesting bit:

BBC News wrote:
Last week, the EU announced plans to help by investing billions of euros in infrastructure. But Mrs Stetsiuk's neighbour, Kees Huizinga - who owns and farms 15,000 hectares - says it's not doing enough.

He's been trying to transport goods since the start of the war, and is exasperated by the mountain of paperwork the EU requires, which he says has created queues at the border up to 25km (16 miles) long.

"It's just paper, it's not like they are actually taking samples of the corn. You just have to have the paper," he says.

On 18 May, two days after the EU announcement, customs authorities asked his drivers for two forms that they had never seen before. "The border is not getting easier, on the contrary it's getting more bureaucratic," he says.

I love the EU! Brexit was a mistake! etc. Rolling Eyes

I might a bit more scared if I lived in Finland, Poland, or even Germany.

If I lived in Germany I wouldn't be worried about a Russian invasion. Putin isn't going to waste any ammunition on the Jerries. They're all just going to freeze to death when he cuts off their fuel next winter.

We should have invaded Ukraine first really. Ok we would have got null points at Eurovision but we can cope with that.

Whilst at home the resentful Remainers, the “I hate the Tories” Lefties, the champagne socialists and the self-harming ‘peacenik’ ignoramuses diss Boris for consuming birthday cake, Zelensky addressed the Ukrainian people saying,

Quote:
The leadership of the United Kingdom, in providing our country with all the necessary assistance in terms of defence, as well as leadership in sanctions policy, will go down in history forever.

A Russian dissident has called the EU “muppets” and Boris “a warrior” for his support to Ukraine.

Germany hasn’t delivered arms to Ukraine for 9 weeks despite promising to do so.

The EU is finding ways to keep buying Russian oil while only appearing to apply ‘sanctions’. Understandable perhaps, having foolishly become dependant on an unreliable regime.

Meanwhile Guy Verhofstadt has used the war and his ‘Conference on the Future of Europe’ (a select bunch of ‘citizens’) to call for the abandonment of unanimity in EU decision making, and an EU army to fix it all, and it really could happen.

Thank goodness we voted Leave, except we’ll probably have to pick up the pieces again when it all inevitably turns to shit.

You do know it's totally wrong to suggest the UK does anything right. We must slag the country off and call it the epitome of social injustice and racism.

That's outrageous.

The muppets managed to plan and organise a one hour stage show every week which ran on budget and for the planned duration which aired on time without fail.

Boris is like Churchill now. That is if Churchill has spent the 1930s partying with nazis, on the evening of war was doing party funding event with the said nazis, has given all the nazis 30 days to hide their money before freezing it, made a major nazi son a Lord, and asked children transport and all fleeing from the nazis for a valid fruit pickers visas.

Boris is hardly steel tempered in the forge of battle; just like any politician these days: jelly conforming to whatever mould is en vogue Sad

I'm seriously wondering whether the whole universal suffrage / democracy project isn't just an elaborate socialist plot Thinking If you want to wrest control at any cost it's much easier if you dilute the electoral base with an extra 15 million idiots (Reform Act 1918.)

Total tin-foil hat stuff till you consider the replacement agenda going on in the US at the moment.
