Hello, my mates WK Colt 50 max speed is 35 at the moment. We aren't too sure on how to make it any faster as i've only worked on derbi's. Any ideas?

35 mph seems good for a moped restricted to 28mph.

The easiest way to make it go faster is to fit a different (bigger)motor as it looks like the generic C90 type.. However if you are 16 and are riding is as a moped this is illegal as everyone here will tell you, in fact derestricting in any other wasy (bigger carb/ exhaust, cdi swap) is also illegal) 35 is fine for 16 be happy, bide your time.

The amount of money you (or your mate) would need to pour into this to make it noticeably faster is not worth it and also probably not within the gift of a 16 year old. I mean you (or your mate) got the WK over a Honda because it's cheap, let's be realistic.

It's not the answer you (or your mate) want to hear, but it's the answer you need to hear. The most cost-effective way to make your (or your mates') moped faster is to lose some weight.

I always find it weird how people come on asking questions for their mates when their mate could have just done it themselves.

You have no hope of getting more than 35mph out of that motor, I would say you're doing well to get that. Replacing it with a Lifan 110 paired with an ATC110 carb would get you 50mph, even if you're a fat bastard. But that'll cost you another £300 just for the parts; add probably another £100 if you have to pay someone to fit it.

Plus you should also factor in that if you - sorry, your mate - gets caught riding it (unlikely, I know) he'll be in for a world of pain.

[Purely as an aside... when did it become OK to pay two grand for a Chinese moped? Ye gods.]

Some years back I gave myself a project to get my Jincheng (Dax) 90 cc to 70 mph (or it might have been 65) anyways I ported and polished the heads as best I knew how, port matched all the inlet gaskets,
and fitted a bigger carb and a straight through exhaust I imported from Belgium.. changed sprockets etc.. IIRC it just about made it to 65 on the clock. I had parts to go 110cc but never got that far before I lost interest.
I do recall though that there was a vast array of expensive parts like hot-cams you could buy from Japan via OORacing but I soon realised it had become a fool's errand...

.. and so I repeated the exercise on my A100 which I bought with the proceeds Rolling Eyes
