I'm not sure that's reason.

I think a lot of societies ill's are caused by an inability to react in a suitable way.

I found nothing wrong in Smiths reaction. I think what he did was justified and denying that or saying it was unacceptable in today's society is a reflection of how wrong that society is .

The right reason to slap someone? There isn't one other than self defence but in that case, a slap might not be suitable.

The only reason to smack some cnut is when you are acting in self defence of a physical attack.

Even then the act of self defence must be proportional.
i.e. He punches you doesn't automatically allow you to shoot him.

For that you must be sure that you can prove in a court that you were in fear for your life.

That's well established in law.

Getting fizikal with some one coz they said something that hurt your feelings is fuck i g thuggery and should be punished.

Smith should be in gaol now.

Anyway, it completely spoiled my viewing of the Academy Awards this year.
And so... I have the right to slap Smith for ruining my night's light entertainment programme.

If you are offended, nothing happens. Maybe don't go and watch comedians that might risk offending you.

If you go and see a comedian that makes a joke at your expense, that's on you. So long as they are not inciting hatred/violence and it is an actual joke, then it is fair game.

The joke was hardly offensive, even given the entire context of the situation. Will obviously has something else going on as he is known as the guy who wouldn't swear in his music but was letting loose on TV in front of millions of people.

Ive thought how i might have reacted if say for some odd reason I'd found myself at the Oscars. Im such an awkward stubborn individual that even if I wasn't an A list star but just some schmo who'd got lucky with some brit indi movie I would probably have just waved dismissively at Rock rolled eyes and quietly (but audibly to the other audience) suggested to my girlfriend that we just ditch and go back to the hotel then split. If Smith had done that he would have buried Rock.

I do think this "roasting" culture that seems popular in the US is very low entertainment and more like cheap schoolyard bullying than real entertainment. It's not a problem if you're an A list celeb but i feel for some poor sod trying to get a career who no doubt gets advised by their agent to go along with it if they eant to get parts.

It could put the kybosh on his getting good parts though as producers will think his name will negatively impact on the films oscar potential.
