Right.

If you have a bike that is restricted to 33BHP, because of the restriction limits imposed on 17-21 year olds is it worth doing trackdays?

I only ask because I for one would like to do trackdays in the future but if I am going to be lagging way behind just because of the restriction kit there seems like no point going.

SS.

Jay did it on a 33bhp hornet.

So yes, it's possible, as far as I know he wasn't lagging behind everyone either.

IMO it's still worth doing one.You will learn more about how to ride your bike, and what it's capable of, in 1 day than you will in a month on the road. It would certainly teach you about how to keep up corner speed!

OR

You could always hire a bike for the day and then you wouldn't have to worry about the lack of power and potential damage to your own bike, not cheap though.

Do it.

Perhaps choose the circuit wisely though, Jay did Cadwell at 33bhp and it wasn't an issue cos it's all corners and not a whole lot of straight.

I imagine Snetterton at 33bhp might be a bit disheartening on the straights, but even so, you're not racing people, you're riding your bike as hard as you can. So just do it anyway. Thumbs Up

depends on how twisty the track is!! however a 33bhp restricted bike should reach 60 in 6 secs, and 100mph(ish)!! So as long as you can corner well you should be alright!! See if youm can do one on the ped!! Laughing Laughing

I think it would depend on the circuit you went to.
If you tried somewhere like Silverstone or Snetterton you'd be in trouble as they are fast circuits, however somewhere like Pembry which is a small circuit you'd be OK.
I'd phone up some Track Day organisers and ask them if i was you.

Ah it seems that it wouldn't be too much of a problem, I might even do my first trackday next year! Cool

I'm not sure which track is closest to me, I'm guessing Castle Coombe.

Sammyboy: I'm pushing the ped at it's hardest on normal A roads and I still lag behind. Laughing

Wherabouts in Somerset are you?

Combe will probably be your closest track, followed by Thruxton - maybe not a great idea on a 33bhp bike Rolling Eyes - And, at a push, Pembrey.

After that, it's a blast up the M5 and M43 to Donington, or across to Silverstone. Alternatively, go right across the M4 and the bottom of the M25 for Brands Hatch. Long way to go those last two mind.

South Somerset, inbetween Yeovil and Taunton. I know where Thruxton is about 80ish mile away I reckon up on the A303.

I see that some people are going Cadwell soon, where is that? Smile

For 2 years anyway Wink

I can't see the point in having to be worrying about being caught speeding and then getting done for not having a proper restriction on either. Smile

33bhp is also the law, so it's his call if he wants to ride without a licence or not.

As people have said I did my first 3 track days on a 33bhp hornet. I wasn’t the slowest on the track by a long way. I only struggled on the 2 straits but I managed to pull back everything and often more in the braking area, and I did manage to go round the out-side of a CBR6 once, don’t quite know how I managed it! All 3 were great days I would recommend Cadwell, the only problem for you is that Cadwell park is in Lincolnshire about 300 miles from you!
The best piece of advice I was give was don’t go on your own, go with someone who has done a track day before. It was reassuring to know I didn’t have to find my way around and my friend pointed me to where I needed to be at various times in the day.

300 Miles! Shocked

Looks like I'll have to delve into the South West usergroup area next year sometime and see if anybody wants to do Castle Coombe or something.

I don't want to go by myself either, I will be really nervous so it would be nice to have some guidance.

Last i heard Thruxton did 1 or 2 Track Days a year.

Castle Combe is Ok,last time i was there was before they added the 2 chicanes so it's not the power circuit it used to be.They only let a few bikes out at any time so it's a good first track, the only thing to watch out for is there noise limits.it's for road silenced bikes only,so no race cans.

Pembry is probably your best bet, or try and blag some transportation with BCF people next year.

Thruxton don't do bike trackdays now. Castle Combe doesn't have a great rep; a bit fast etc.

Brands Hatch is very expensive. Lydden is only a bit expensive, but is good for small bikes.

Cheers for the help guys, so it does seem like I will be doing some trackdays next year after all if I get comfortable enough on my bike. Smile

Brands is an awsome track! Ive only done the short curcuit once, but the corners are still quick, well on a RS125 Honda anyway. Get the toes, pegs, elbows everything scraping. Im at Donnington this Sunday, but I cant use slicks!! So im on cruddy intermediates which chatter and slide everywhere lol. Ive only done one trackday and that was at Cadwell, I liked it coz I could just experiment with the bike, lines etc. You can't really do that in a 5 minute practice session on a race day. Cadwell is a very tricky curcuit and it takes alot of experience to get good at it let alone master it. Ive been there on 1 race weekend and the fast 125's where umbeleivable, properly flying over the mountain with the rear wheel about 10cm off the ground!

No where near mastering Cadwell (nor any other circuit), but, for small bikes at least, the mountain is all in the chicane at the bottom (not the new one), get that sorted and it's suprisingly easy to get air over there.
While I definitely wasn't as high as others, I was suprised I was getting a little bit on my 53hp rs250.
