Ive searched the forums and cant find anything that could help :/

I was riding the other day and the bike broke down with a check engine light but managed to get it going again - usual 'oh shit the bikes stopped' procedure haha turned off and on again and holding clutch etc managed to splutter back to life but broke down three more times before reaching home and then pushed it the last few hundred meters home and now it wont start at all...

I feel like I've tried everything including jump starting. The fuel pump works fine and ive changed the spark plug still nothing. Running and bump starting the bike will sound like it tries to start and it gives a puff of exhaust/smoke but not actually start.

plugging an odbii into the bike reveals that the error code behind the check engine light is 'p1601' which when i looked it up online says 'Side stand switch open or short circuit.' Well i pulled the switch off the bike and checked it with a multi meter and it works just fine and surely the bike would start with the clutch held in or when in neutral and only have a problem starting in gear..?

I'm all out of ideas and local garage is booked up and can't book the bike in for at least a month so kind of hoping someone here has some ideas... fingers crossed! Please help haha

If it's not the switch, it's probably something between the switch and the ECU. It's probably a dodgy connection or loose connector - something like that.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
