I have to sell a bike because funds are short. I really am not sure which to sell. I do like them all. What would you do guys?
I have been using the VFR while the others are in a garage at the moment. I'm thinking maybe sell the VFR and use the 600. I'm only really doing crazy stuff, not fitting of my age, on B roads down the Borders. As much as I like to think of it am I realistically going to go touring anytime soon? Nope. So maybe the VFR is surplice. Problem is I really like it. It is great fun, totally planted and goes like a rocket, surprisingly chuckable for a big heavy bike and looks great in my opinion. Maybe sell my dogs instead Laughing I tend to use teh bikes all year round and really don't want to bugger up the 90's bikes.

CBR1991-1993
250 RR my estimate £3.5k? (It's well sorted)
400 RR my Estimate £2.5k? (Needs some TLC but runs great)
900 RR my Estimate £5k (It's well sorted with low miles)
600 F2 my estimate £1k Sad even though it's well sorted.
VFR1200FA Estimate £5k Well sorted and only 2700 miles, OEM sat nav. heated grips, panniers and all that shit.

I've got to ask myself whether I need 5 bikes, it is the upside of bipolar that makes me spend every halfpenny I've got on the two wheel vehicle type things.

Photo's just because I am a skint show off. Love all of them to be honest. Rolling Eyes

TL;DR Pick one to ditch.

Sell VFR, buy early Blackbird. Full set of CBRs, still have a sports tourer and have £2-3k in your pocket.

My first reaction was sell the 600 because it’s nicely bracketed by the other bikes such that you might not miss it, but at a paltry £1k I’d rather keep it.

Next in mind was the 400. It is similarly bracketed by others in the collection. However, the 4-stroke 250 seems too close to offer anything different (just a little bit lighter, a bit revvier). At £3.5k I’d sell the 250.

Steelie CBR6s are common (although maybe not in as tidy a condition). 250s and 400s are not.

If I had a 250RR, I'd never sell it but I'd punt the 600 on the basis I'd be able to pick up another one for similar money if I really wanted it.

On a practical point. Isn't the VFR the only E10 compliant bike there?

I'd sell the CBR600F first. It'll never realistically appreciate in value and everything it does is covered by something else. Then if that wasn't enough cash I'd sell whichever (being honest with myself) I rode the least.

I don't think you're far off in your price estimate for the CBR400RR, but it's definitely not all original (unless you've changed it since you took the pics). It's got an aftermarket can, screen and front disks at least.

Oh never realised that thanks. Don't think that is reduces the value much. But it is in worse condition than the others so may be a good choice to sell. I am not a bike tinkerer in the slightest, just like to ride them. Even a bog standard service is done by someone else. The 400 needs carbs sorted, service, cleaned and the fitting on the right hand fairing needs repaired.

You are after it Paddy...lol 250 is the last bike I'd sell, not going to sell it. It is so fun to ride and screams like a turbocharged hairdryer, it whizzes, whatever that is. Laughing

CBR600 would be my choice. Great bike but doesn’t bring anything to the table in terms of the ownership experience. It’s just a “thing”, like a bottle cap or a piece of lint. Plus if you wanted another one it would be the easiest to replace. Not a huge fan of the VFR but I prefer daily drivers to have fecking huge engines which the VFR has covered.

I know what your saying and get it. I have spent £700 on this bike getting it absolutely sorted though. And I it's hardly worth selling it. And I like riding it, reminds me of the Hornet I rode during DAS.

So far I have gathered from this that I'm not going to sell the 250 or 600. At least that narrows it down Crying or Very sad

600 or 400 imo - probably former

RE the big viffer for a sec: MCN reckons annual servicing costs are £200. And yet valve checks are supposedly something of a must - every 16k. That'd mean in a good year, I'd be needing one come the end of the autumn. No way I'd get that done for £200 - and if adjustment was needed it'd be more like four times that.

How much do you need? If you need a big wedge then it’s the 900 or Viffer. If it’s payday loan territory then I’d be tempted to buy your 600 Wink

600 for me, never liked 'em but its a hard decision mate. Think the others have character.

Decided not selling the 600, it owes me to much. I need more than a grand, still got a £5k loan for the VFR.

They're all good bikes, that's your problem. Personally I'd not sell the VFR, they don't make them anymore, having one in fantastic condition will only get harder as time goes on. That said, I'd have been tempted to have bought the VFR off you if it had been a few years ago (but I'm too attached to my VFR800 now).

I would sell all of them except the VFR if it was me Crying or Very sad I am a biking tot so I don't see the appeal in these older classic bikes at all.

So you see the appeal of an ER6 (with a fairing so even more like a 2 wheeled car than the standard one), but not, amongst other things, a Mk1 Fireblade (which is basically a mobile cure for homosexuality).

Odd.

I think the ER6-F is a very meh bike in every department. I got it because it was cheap, available and recommended by many as a first big bike: not because I thought it was a beauty.

I'm just not really into older bikes is all. I think they look really dated and not in a nice way like even older bikes are. It's just a matter of preference and I prefer the look of modern naked and supersport bikes.

The two bikes I really like at the moment are the new Suzuki Katana and the Ducati Supersport and both are styled really differently from each other.

That's maybe a good idea mate. I've been having a look at them. I haven't ever seen one in the flesh oddly enough. Would need to see one. In general I could sell the VFR and get something else for about £2k as a winter bike.

This is true of all his bikes.

If you're considering this, make sure you have a sit on one. I looked at them while looking for a VFR replacement but the riding position is surprisingly wristy for the kind of bike it is. I'm sure it's ok with an 150mph wind, but round town, I just couldn't see it being comfy.

Cycle-ergo (https://cycle-ergo.com/) gives the Blackbird a forward lean of 34 degrees. As a comparison, your VFR1200 is 24 degrees, the CBR250RR is 32 degrees, and an original R6 is 36 degrees.

I'd bin the jellymould 600. It's the more mundane of the selection IMO.

Apart from that, I gotta say that is a nice paddock of well-kept bikes.

Ah, wait… so you’re not going to sell any of the similarly-dressed Honda ‘collection.’ Understood now. (Why do I feel annoyed? Laughing) VFR it is.

Definitely keep the unmentioned but pictured Kawasaki. Wink
