The day the Guardian and the BBC hope to quietly forget.

Its Turkish killer of mythical beasts day. April really is the month for celebrating daftness, given Easter is all about a middle-eastern zombie who came out of a cave and flew.

Have a happy day all, whatever the excuse! Very Happy

Yes, there should be no Easter and Christmas holidays in a secular world.

Hmm? No-one has mentioned St Edmund Confused
Wasn’t he the patron Saint of England before St George?

FFS, its nowt to do with history, it's something to promote a love of your country.

The Irish have St'Patricks day and thats great. brilliant, up the Irish. Wear a green hat and everyone loves you.

The Scots have St, Andrews day where they all wear tartan and love their country.

The English have St. Georges day where everyone who clebrates it is a racist or a gammon. tm. Diane, Kier and their accolytes.

Well fcuk em. Thumbs Up

Remember when being English meant you were from the one place in the world which didn't have to wave flags around like the other idiots?

Flags, tasteless and best left to fascists and Americans.

Anyone remember when being English was something to be proud rather than ashamed of?

It's nothing to be ashamed of and nobody worth listening to claims it is. There's a contingent of people to though who look jelously at drunk scots and wistfully though secretly want to be like them. I don't get it.

I wasn't aware that anything had changed. If nothing else, I love being English because it seems to wind so many nutters up without me actually having to do anything Laughing

I'm glad to be British.i wouldn't say I'm proud of an accident of birth.

I think that the British have done many good things in recent times and can be grateful to do my part but to assume I'm better just because of where I was born?

Actions, not where I was born.

I like being a Brit, its a sort of anti-identity which defies johnny foreigners ability to pin us down. I know a lot of Scots who like that aspect as well, its a good defence against the exceptionalist nut jobs as well.

There's also no problem with have a capacity for self enquiry and criticism. Look at 'Murica where any attempt to challenge what a mess the place is gets thrown out as being "unamerican".
