https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX%3A62013CJ0162

A bill was passed to remove a nonsense EU law from UK books.

This is a bad example of why Great Britain should not be in the EU.

It should have been resolved by debate and not by resorting to the senseless upheaval and harm that Brexit created.

The issue was that it was a cast in stone law that could never be appealed as it was a case tried in the highest court in Europe.

Yes, I filled in a consultation document on that legislation and the favoured option was to pay only lip-service to the ruling as far as possible and continue kicking the can down the road until we either left the EU or they wised up.

Better, clearer explanation here:

So in essence, prior to scrapping this edict, farmers were expected to have road insurance to cross their own fields?

It's complicated. Basically the UK said FU to the EU and never got round to implementing any changes as a result of the ruling, because it didn't agree with it. However, by virtue of it being an EU Directive it sort of gets adopted automatically anyway. So then there was Lewis Vs Tindale which threw cat amongst the pigeons nicely.

Essentially a land owner decided a rambler was up to no good, set off in his 4x4 to intercept him and mowed him down. The motor insurer said nah mate, not liable as it's not use of the vehicle on a public road and as an actual motor vehicle. Therefore, vehicle uninsured and a claim is raised against the MIB. The MIB say nah mate, the court says yeah mate, so the MIB then sought contribution from the Govt for the incident to avoid passing on the cost to the motorist by virtue of increased contributions.

The Govt then decided to do something about it by removing its effects from UK law entirely.

But not only farmers, all forms of motorsport too, so even Sir Lewis Carl Davidson Hamilton MBE HonFREng would have had to compared the Meercat to race in the British F1 GP

Is it okay to feel offence that a dweeb wee F1 participant is a Knight of the British Empire?

If so then perhaps I need to revisit my opinions about Scottish Independence.

(Looking for a political organisation that doesn't have a Reyner, Stammer or an Abbot in it and not the Special Needs Party.)

Good luck answering the question: "Have you had any accidents in the last 5 years?"
