It's down to local authorities because sometimes they have good resons why bikes aren't allowed.

For example, the bus gate in Bath. It's a bus lane through the only way to get from one side of bath centre to the other by going through the middle. They don't really want any private transport doing it so only buses and taxis are allowed.

It's not like it's difficult or takes ages to go round instead.

Aside from the right had turn into James St. West every other bus lane in Bath allows bikes. This right turn was never allowed up until the point the bus lane was added.

I'm not aware of any bus lanes in Bristol that cannot be used by bikes (and that includes the 2+ lanes).

I'm also not even aware of an bus lanes within 10 miles of where I currently live.

If you cannot see and understand the signs you shouldn't be on the road.

Precisely my point: sometimes they have good reasons but, for London at least, they don't allow motorbikes in bus lanes because they're c*nts.

The question is, is anything under human jurisdiction ever benevolently managed for a greater good and guided by reason and logic, or is absolutely everything a cynical and selfish exploitation and a cash grab? We could extend this argument to just about anything, from HS2 to speed cameras to bikes in bus lanes. Personally, I've got my own view of how the world works, although I realise some parts of the country are more attractive than others.

TFL red routes mostly allow bikes and most councils follow suit. Lambeth is the one to watch out for, south of the river.
