Only just recently, over the last few months, noticed a wobble that appears at 120mph indicated and gets worse the faster I go. Usually shits me up so I always end up backing off below 120mph. Don't usually go that fast so it's difficult to pinpoint exactly when it appeared.

Seems to have coincided with changing it going into Laguna Maidstone for a service and new chain/sprocket. For what its worth the front sprocket was changed for a -1.

Any ideas? It has a factory fitted steering damper. Would one of these aftermarket ones help?

Is there definitely something wrong with the bike or could it be something daft I'm doing?

Also fitted Givi knuckle guards similar to the standard ones that come with the MTi10 Tourer edition. Don't suppose that could be it giving some weird buffeting through the handlebars?

That could be worn tyres but could be lose steering bearings.

Is the back wheel spindle done up tight?

That reminds me it also had new tyres fitted by Laguna at the same time as the service. Original S21s swapped out for S22s. Back wheel is nice and tight as I only just recently adjusted the chain :-/

You got all the original bodywork fitted? Do you have luggage on it? Have you checked your tyre pressures?

Original bodywork, yes. Except for hand guards, could these be putting dirty turbulence on the bars?

Only have a rear seat bag and it's been on there for ages, it's never caused a problem before.

Not checked pressures the last few times I've ridden it to be honest but pretty sure I have checked them since I first noticed the wobble. I'll double check again tonight.

What happens when you take your hands off the bars at 50?

Probably nothing to do with the bars/steering. Most weaves come from the back end (and most of those are tyre related) or are a geometry issue. My GPZ used to get a speed weave if you left the belly pan off. My KLE supermoto got one because I'd dropped the front end way too much and over-tightened the frame rake angle.

Suspension setup also plays its part. Have you been playing with that?

I asked about luggage because top-boxes are known to cause speed weaves.

If you're going to fiddle with the suspension, write down where everything is now so you can put it back if it makes things worse, return it to factory settings, set the sag then work from there.

Yes

Only a tail bag on the passenger seat.

Took it out today for the May Day Run and all pressures fine (despite picking up two punctures in my rear tyre at the same time from stopping on the hard shoulder waiting for the others to catch up!!!). Grrr!

Seems to want to steer to the right if I'm honest! Whenever I set the cruise control and take my hands off the bars it always seems like I have to shift more of my weight ever so slightly to the left hand side in order for it to go straight. But that may just be my imagination. Maybe I'm fatter on my right hand side than I am on my left! Hands on bars there's definitely no sense of it trying to pull to the right even at high speeds.

Only the rear pre-load a while back because it came loose and unwound all the way to the bottom. I just set it to roughly the centre and made sure the headlight wasn't dazzling anyone and left it at that. Other than that it's been left as it came from new. Semi active suspension FWIT, not sure if that's relevant.

I had Givi knuckle guards on there (not very good quality in my opinion so may go to genuine Yamaha ones next winter) but I removed them before heading out earlier as they were only compatible with the original levers, got a set of Gilles ones from the Yamaha accessories website and also a set of ASV levers, neither were compatible with the knuckle guards because they're larger than the OEM ones so I removed the knuckle guards and put the Gilles ones on for today. Also removed the tail bag as I anticipated taking my 11yo daughter as pillion (but she elected to ride with my 19yo son in the end instead because she trusts him more than me!!!).

So no knuckle guards and no tail bag... No wobble at 120mph either! Got it just over 130mph at one point and still nothing.

What do you think is the culprit? Knuckle guards or tail bag? Or neither?
