I wonder when women will realise they can stick child porn on their husband's computer before a divorce? Thinking

Anyone would be stupid to attempt that. The forensic trail would lead straight back to them and they'd probably end up in the dock for making and sharing indecent images of children as well as perverting the course of justice.

Oh its absolutely possible to do it without leaving a forensics trail!

For example:
1. Buy hard drive and USB flash drive from shop, preferably cash
2. Install windows and Tor. Encrypt drive (not bitlocker)
3. Download CP images, terror manuals etc and copy to USB.
4. Copy from USB to hubby's PC. For extra points change the timestamps to much earlier in the year
5. Destroy both drives and bury in the woods

Total cost: £21.50 (£16.50 for the SSD, £5 for the USB drive)

These laws are wide open to abuse, not just by spouses but also by cops/spooks, business partners, political activists and so on. Anyone with access and a grudge/financial incentive.

Your imagination exceeds the basic ability of the majority of people and the fact that you've given it that much thought is more than a tad disturbing tbh.

TOR doesn't preclude forensics by the way, neither does the use of removable drives and the action of searching for, finding and visiting such a site will leave a lot more evidence than you seem to realise. The vast majority of people wouldn't even know where to start which in itself is of some evidential value...

Seems you have given it as much thought, equally disturbing. Difference is, I'm advocating closing the loop hole, you seem to be cool with it staying in place.

So they are going to run forensics on a destroyed drive which is buried in a unknown location, thrown off a yacht or whatever, and which is encrypted? Damn that's some impressive forensics Laughing

What makes you think forensics would only be interested in the SSD or USB stick?

The difference is, this is my profession. There's no loophole to be closed here, it doesn't exist and nor, quite frankly, is it likely to.

You do realise that forensics don't only apply to physical media don't you?

That doesn't make a difference. There is a loop hole, I just explained it in detail, and you really didn't like it.

I do. Do you have any other condescending questions? Do you realise that forensics don't just apply to networks don't you? You do realise that other people know things too, don't you? Laughing

That's not a loop hole; it's a stupid idea that would never work. If anyone followed your detailed explanation then they would end up in prison

Unsure if you're actually being serious or if you're just trolling.

SSDs and USBs are easily turned to dust by a bench grinder. We destroy our old SSDs and USBs simply by grinding them to fucking dust in the workshop. We done it after getting a quote for professional destruction that was more expensive than the drives were to buy in the first place. Laughing

Good luck retrieving 1's and 0's from literal dust.

Oh it does make a difference. I'm paid to understand things like this and to be able to give professional advice on them when required.

Anyway, what Ste said. No loophole, just some bizarre imaginings on your part.

Yes I know that other people understand how things work. However, It isn't apparent that you do from your posts on the matter. Laughing

Again, you don't need the existence of physical media to perform forensics. They're certainly helpful, but not essential by any means.

There's an easier disposal route by the way. Total physical destruction is only really needed for very top level stuff Wink

Also I hope your operator is wearing some decent respiratory PPE Wink Laughing

I know, we could probably just dunk them in a beaker of aqua regia and just leave it overnight in the fume cupboard and come back to a sludge that gets neutralised and poured away.

Everyone that uses the grinders or the CNC plasma cutter wears a full-face respirator. Welding gets done in it's own booth with down-draft table.

The case is essentially a reality TV show competition for which party is the best actor.

Personally I find them both a bit hamy but Depp does hamming it up quite effectively so might just win the game.

I suppose it all hinges on how gullible the jury are Thinking
