It started with me not being able to get as comfy as I liked on the scooty
I looked up the cycle ergo page, dialled in the model and my height and saw this

Hmm.. yeah, all very well but I dont want to sit up and beg all the time
At times I want to put my feet forward (and feel the breeze on my lady bits..)
which makes me lean back a bit.
that didn't feel comfy and I figured I needed some kind of back rest
so jiggered about with the image

artists impression of initial idea:

I doubted I'd find an economical off the shelf device so rooted around my scrap pile for some 18mm external ply to make the back plate

https://imgur.com/y3XSjVI.jpg

and use some upcycled discarded steel tube to make the main support.

I had to make many experiments and tests to get it positioned so I could still lift the main seat whilst having something I could lean back on
The pad part
(30mm of camping mat covered with a strip cut off a waterproof boot liner)
is bolted to the base and can easily be removed for improving/upgrading the cover or adding extra padding should I need to.

It feels pretty robust initially and will run it like this to see if any cunning wheezes to improve it present themselves
All made from stuff lying around the place.
Cost wise feck all apart from £10 for 100x 8mm nylock nuts and 100x 8mm washers
from Screwfix.

You could fit a load of pike nuts on the back of it and modify it so it pivots down and locks over the seat as a theft deterrant.
