I just got this from the local dump shop for $25.
I saw it, pulled the cord it had compression and spark, so I got it in the hope of fixing it for my 3 year old grand son.
I think its still a bit big but won't be long.

3 is still a bit young. If it were me I'd be going either minimoto or crf50 sized pitbike. Probably a twist and go with the smallest possible engine and a governor.

I bought mine a LT50 quad when they were little. Within no time at all even my then 4 year old daughter could do doughnuts in the snow. Happy days.

I'm thinking of getting my son a little bike, he's 8 coming up for 9. The problem for me is where do I take him to have a shot of it? The parks and vacant ground will attract moaning Karens.

This is exactly the problem you will face. Even if the bike is almost silent the fun police will complain about chavs/hell's angels, and the real police will come down and tell you to stop. You need a friend with a field...

I found a few offroad places locally that let you turn up on your own bikes and ride around, but had younger areas all fenced off, might be worth calling round?

Only dedicated off-road place I know around here is Drumclog and the farmer that owns it is an absolute cunt and only really concerned with ripping you off as much as possible. Went a couple years back with my mate in his Defender and found out that you pay £25 per person not per vehicle. So if you had a passenger with you to help getting unstuck then you paid extra for them to be in it with you.

My son started last year aged 3 on a 70cc quad (with throttle limiter). Though next year l will move him up to a 50cc dirt bike once he is a bit bigger.

We live on a 160 acres of land so plenty of space to ride around on. Never got do that living in London when l was a kid....

Is it so wrong to laugh at this. Could be a three year old.

When my kids were growing up, I used to play a lot of motoball (google it), and consequently I spent a lot of time face down in the dirt with my bike on top of me.
Also the kids would ride on the back of my bike across the field shouting “faster dad faster “!.
However things and times change.
So now I have been told by my grown up kids in no uncertain terms that NO my grandchildren are not allowed a bike Sad Evil or Very Mad

We shall see Wink Cool

My son loves going pillion on the bike with me and keeps urging me to go faster. It's me who's torn on when to take him out on the bike with me. I just don't do it in wet weather, I am confident in my ride and confident in the bike but it's other people I worry about. Wet and cold... I will ride in it myself but not with my boy.

This is why I really want to get him a little bike of his own he can use somewhere as he's asked for one and showing interest in it. My own parents were against most of the things I wanted to try as a kid and I swore to never be like that. Seems like finding a place for him to ride one is going to be the issue so I will keep looking around. Might even try going around farms that are close by and asking.

He's still a bit short, I am thinking some trainer wheels set high like a rolling side stand both sides. Also the front brake is already disconnected, so that works for me at the moment.
We have 5 acres but its raw bush so I will need clear paths, and get him some safety gear.

This is the bike I made in the 80s for my son, he was 7 and unable to ride a push bike for medical reasons. It had a clutch and 2sp box which I put a shifter on top of the frame with only first and neutral. The idea was a safety switch if he fell against it it would move forward into neutral Sad

I think I mentioned this before but, on the subject of kids as pillions, one of mine fell asleep once. I thought to myself, what the hell is she p1ssing about at now. It went for a while until I thought oh ffs, and I pulled over and said wth are you doing. She said oh I was just feeling a bit tired and fell asleep. Erm yeah good idea luv. Maybe don't actually do that - because if you do you'll probably fall off and get your face and lungs crushed by a massive truck.
