Soundbar for TV worth it?

I just got a new tv its an LG 43 in and fine but the sound is not as good as my old Toshiba. Im thinking of getting a soundbar, are they worth it?

Depends on the use case... if you only watch the 6 o'clock news... not much point if you watch movies etc, you don't know what you're missing until you move to 5.1 or higher. Just don't get a cheap soundbar cos it might make things worse than a good TVs built in speakers.

One with a subwoofer (even a small one) will usually give you a couple of octaves lower frequency than the average TV will provide.

Sound generation is all about shifting volumes of air and the major downside to flat-screen TVs is they're too thin Any exterior system should be an improvement, especially at the bass end. A soundbar's a good compromise if you don't want to go to the bother of a 5.1 or 7.1 system.

bought a new Sony tv about 6 years ago. the sound was greatly improved when i added a Yamaha sound bar.
paid about £100 for the bar. it was on offer at the time.
no sub whoofer,
but i think the bar has about 6 speakers on it.
i dont use it for casual watching, but it makes binge watching/movies a lot more enjoyable.
i would rather have one than not. it just sits under the tv, so not really taking up any more room.

I hope some marketing bod somewhere got a massive bonus for persuading us all that crappy speakers on our TVs (even incredibly expensive ones) was totally fine, and we should pay for decent sound separately.

Have you ever listened to a drum & bass track or house track on your phone as opposed to a sound system? You're missing about 2/3 of the song on your phone.

Same thing with a TV, they've all got shocking speakers. In my opinion, you should always have a sound bar / sound system.

The next problem is, getting the right equipment for the job. No point spending £50 on a shit soundbar off eBay.

Also no point in buying a soundbar that won't fill the room size.

I've got multi room Sonos systems for music and 7.1 Atmos systems for tvs / projectors. Each fits the room / setup as needed.

Nope. Depending on sofa ... ours recline so it's great. And if watching from the far end of the room whilst eating, it's visible over the top of the sofa.

Works very well for us like that.
