Dunno. I need to cut the grass and empty the compost bin. Both of these task became beyond that state of urgently needing to be done a couple of months ago.
On my day off today I made brackets for my motorbike then went ot the pub. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Hmm? Am I an adult?
When dealing with teenagers and young people, my adult head is worn.
When going to the bank , my adult head is worn.
When in the privacy of my crash-helmet , I’m a teenager again.
When I do a large fart , I’m 12 years old again
Bollocks to being grown up! Life can be to boring to be grown up all the time.
Having said all that,Tonight’s task is to empty the dishwasher and tomorrow’s task is to mow the lawn ____________________ I am the sum total of my own existence, what went before makes me who I am now! |

Here we go again. Lets take the piss out of autistic people, a fun BCF pastime.
I'd love for some of you schmucks to walk a mile in the shoes of someone crippled by autism.
My 8 year old nephews life is very, very difficult. completely rejected by his peers, his only friends are his pets.
With the awful learning disabilities he has, he simply can't understand why nobody will play with him at school.
Of course, the powers that be have just drugged him up to the eyeballs. It's fucking heartbreaking.
It runs in my family, my father, my niece and I all have varying degrees of autism but my nephew really got the short
straw on that one and is very affected. My dad isn't far behind. My niece and I are far more high functioning and have
lucked out comparitively by only having mild ASD once commonly known as Aspergers. When my IQ was
independently tested two years ago I scored 137. I could fluently read from the age of 3. As an infant school pupil I
was often drafted into the junior school classes to help those kids with their reading since the curriculum for children my age
had nothing suitable for me, in junior school my secondary school to be sent work in for me to do for the same reasons.
I fucked it all up though because I spent all my time sodding about at school because I wasn't being challenged enough by
the work. In the 70's I was just considered a semi gifted child after some testing during my infant school years,
unfortunately the system didn't really have a plan for those so I wasn't really encouraged to thrive.
We expect my niece to score a bit higher than me having just watched her ace not one but two 11 plus exams
so she could have a choice of grammar schools. We're waiting till she turns 18 before she's evaluated as we don't want to
disrupt how well she's doing at school by labelling her as different seeing the damage it's done to her brother.
It's mainly socially where she and I have our struggles coupled with a very black and white thought process.
My diagnosis was two years ago aged 47. She's very protective of her little brother as am I, poor sod has a shit
time of it every single day. It's much harder to spot autism in females as they are naturally more social and can mask
better, but there's enough of it in my genetic line for the family to to clearly identify some ASD characteristics. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

My little brother is autistic, he's 30 years old but his mental age is still around 13/14. He still lives with my parents because he needs constant care. The only reason he holds down a job (ironically in this instance with Sainsbury's) is because my parents force him to and Sainsbury's are actually very supportive employers. He doesn't understand why people need jobs or money, etc. I have real fears for him once my parents pass away because he will absolutely need a carer. He had to go to a special school that was more of a day-care than educational facility as he was too disabled for normal/untrained teachers to handle at a non specialist school. Maybe autism is better understood and handled nowadays at schools but 20 years ago it absolutely wasn't.
I don't get why people would be anything but supportive of the guy in the news article. He clearly isn't someone who just fancied taking their pet cat along with him. If having his cat with him is what it takes for him to go about living his one and only life then what is the problem with that? People looking down on him should be living their one and only life too and not being a cunt about how other people are living theirs.
My point of view is simple: if what you want to do isn't bringing harm to others then you should be allowed to do it. Goes across the whole spectrum - drugs, sex, guns, whatever. Keep it in check, don't hassle or harm someone else and it's ok by me. ____________________ PRESENT: 2018 BMW S1000XR SE Sport.

I think a lot of employers are becoming better; interesting you mention Sainsbury's, one near here employed a guy with fairly severe Down's Syndrome, but he was brilliant. He used to help out around the checkouts, move baskets around etc.. but he worked tirelessly and presumably his employer saw that given his long term employment. Out of work is a different matter entirely though and I fully get your concern.
I haven't read the original linked article in detail, but assuming the animal is under control I don't see what the problem is; no different than a guide dog in the sense it's assisting a person to go about their lives? ____________________ TG. |

I work for Tesco, same at my place. We have (at least) three blatantly autistic people that I know of besides myself
and I'm certain there are others too who aren't so outwardly autistic. We also have a fair few either partially sighted or deaf staff,
the deaf people wear a different hi viz because it's helpful to the rest of us using electric pallet trucks to know that person
can't hear you coming up behind them. The ones who have visual difficulties get different computer equipment to use
that suits their condition. We have the one fella who is very hard of hearing and partially sighted too, I honestly don't know
how he manages to do the job, but I admire his determination to try rather than sit at home on disability bucks. We have
a very inclusive workplace really, it's nice to see employers finally getting that people who have issues can still contribute. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

To bring a lighter note to this thread, wifie is of the opinion I and most other men never grow up. She honestly does not see all that I do to keep house, boat, cars etc. all running smoothly. I even cook for her but I still haven't grown up.
Now I'm off to buy some Lego that my grandson can ̶w̶a̶t̶c̶h̶ help me build. ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

Nope, just that guy.
Also, if you didn’t find the idea of an ‘assistance pony’ on the Metro funny, or a peacock travelling companion (also in the article), well that’s a shame.

Some sad personal anecdotes about the debilitating effects there, and I didn’t mean to be rude, but this guy Ian Fenn flaunts it like a virtue.

My nephews best friends are a selection of frogs and a tortoise. Whatever gets you through it. Personally I
just socially isolate myself now and don't really go out anymore. I used to have a dog who was my best friend
but she was taken from me and there was nothing I could do about that. I have her name tattooed on the wrist
of the hand I used to hold her lead with and miss her terribly every single day. I'd sooner be in her company than
99.9% of humans. My circumstances now mean I can't have a dog anymore so I have to go through each and every
day with absolutely nobody I can truly call a friend. I have fuck all social support anymore, I just exist day to day.
My bedroom is full of photos of 'my' dog, no people just 'my' dog. A very small number of people on BCF know
more details about my private life and will likely confirm what I 've said. Hellkat in particular.

Maybe he's trying to raise awareness, it's an invisible disability that few understand. I admire him for keeping on trying.
I've all but given up, funnily enough I had a full autistic shutdown myself this evening. Walked out of my job and
came home 2 hours before my time was up without a word to any of the supervisory staff. Probably gonna get fired
again, literally lost count of the times where I've been fired over the years although I never really knew why that was
until my very late diagnosis. I walked around for many years thinking I had BPD, a lot of the autism traits can seem similar.
Its very common for autistic folk to struggle to hold down jobs. So many things suddenly made sense when I was
diagnosed. I'd guess my mental age is about 17 when I become overwhelmed by my condition, since this whole
thread is about 'adulting'. My point being that some can't adult, no matter how much they try. A good you tuber is a
guy named Mark Hutton who exclusively posts about ASD. His videos are short and to the point.
Post diagnosis I felt the need to educate myself on the subject as I knew about as much about it as the average
person. I can't really tell you what it feels like to hear you are irretrievably broken from a health professional,
the condition has no cure and I won't allow myself to be medicated to dull the effects. It's easier to just avoid everybody
since it's other people and their actions that usually set me off on one. ____________________ Currently enjoying products from Ford, Mazda and Yamaha

The idea of adulthood is quite retro.
You see, when you rode a pedal bicycle as a kid, you dressed in normal clothes. You rode it to get around and meet friends, and have fun. Now you're an "adult", you can't do it like that any more. You have to put on your spandex/lycra, and a helmet. You have to ride the most expensive and uncomfortable bike you can get your hands on. You can't enjoy yourself and relax - you have to pedal like crazy and look angry. Do some 'roids and get fast! You have to play the part of the hard man with spindly arms. Everyone in a car is just soft and a weakling and morally inferior to you, etc. You can't just look and act normal. *
Another example: you've got a hobby. Classic cars, for example. You have to find a way to turn it into a business. It won't do, to sit at home tinkering in your garage. Let the world know about your brand. Use Youtube. Just, whatever you do, don't be childish enough to simply enjoy your time.
It's kind of ridiculous, in a way. It sold Harleys, I suppose. And cigarettes. But the idea is over, now.
You should eat that Magnum Classic. You get a few decades with a few nice summers in them, then you die.
* Before anyone gets mad, I do ride a bicycle for fun and exercise. I'm just using it as an example of generational attitudes. |
