Ordered a new cover for the XJ even though it's not even torn (what was I thinking?!)
Anyhow my recent long-distance (cough) ride of 90 miles left me wondering it was also time to give the foam some attention.. I've heard sanding off a hardened top layer can help, or there's the option to add memory foam like this helpful chap...

Anyone done this and like to comment? Cheers. ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750

Yep played about with seat covers many's a time with varying degrees of success.
RE foam
There's foam and there's foam
Basic foam has weight and density so careful selection is advised
for instance

Some folk go on about memory foam and gel but in reality they
rarely spend significant amounts of time in the saddle.
If you do long runs then getting the seat right is more important.
Otherwise it may be a cosmetic exercise.
Shaping a seat to fit your particular bum and leg length can make a bike more comfy though.
A high wide seat and short legs is not a good combination. ____________________ bikers smell of wee |

Yes I see..
.. any view on shaving off any hardened crust before re-covering? ____________________ Now: A100, GT250A, XJ598, FZ750

I got a sewing machine off Freecycle a while back that I repaired and have been
mulling over having a go at getting some vinyl and making a seat cover for the scooty.
It's fine except for a split in a tricky place where PO's have stuck gaffer tape on
There's a cheap TPU stretchy type thing over it atm to keep the weather out

I got a quote for £150 from an upholsterer
but I'm a cheap bastard and like to have a go at things myself.
Its a much more complex shape than a bike seat though
and I have no delusions of matching the skill and experience of a pukka seat wallah, so may just cough up the dosh and get it done properly. ____________________ bikers smell of wee |
