So I took the bike for a run today and suddenly I realised I was loosing a bit of power as I cranked it over on an island and then she cut out. I went through the usual checks and it was obviously fuel starvation, after stripping the carb, blowing up pipes etc I took a look in the tank it was as dry as a bone! I managed to hitch a ride on the back of a Harley and bought a gallon of the most expensive petrol of my life in the most expensive fuel can of my life.
Thank you to the guys with the Harley and his mate on the MT09.

Depending ont he bike, I have been known to take the tank with me if I ran out of fuel. Few reasons. 1) Saves buying a new fuel can. 2) Makes the bike less likely to be nicked while it's sitting wherever it is. 3) It's abundantly clear to any passing vehicles why you are walking down the side of the road and someone usually stops and offers you a lift.

That said, I'm amazed an experienced motorbicyclist such as yourself doesn't keep a length of fuel hose inside the handlebars for syphoning purposes.

Let me just add that the one time in my life that I have run out of petrol (about 20 years ago) was when driving a car. It was a couple of bikers who stopped to help, then rode off to the nearest garage to buy me a can of petrol. Good peoples. Thumbs Up

Can't do that with this bike as it has a split tank, ie half of it contains oil and the other half fuel and it was full of oil, that is also one of the reasons I ran out as looking into the tank I could see 50 mm of fuel but of course it was in fact only 25mm if it was over the entire base of the tank.As for bunging a tube up the bar, no chance as the ends are blocked with the reversed levers
