I have the service manual but it doesn't specify the default clip position for the main jet needle and I cannot fin that anywhere online. Anyone know that?

There is no 2006 V star over here
There is a 2006 XVS1100A Dragstar Classic

Dragstar1100/V-Star1100, basically same bike.

re needle circlips (there are two, one in each carb)
If you cant ask the guy who took it apart
I'd set it in the middle, then test, observe and adjust accordingly.

As WD states with the middle position in the U.K. but remember you have an air cooled engine and you cannot afford to run it on a weak mixture.
Also the front cylinder has more air to cool it but the back cylinder has less.
The back cylinder carb may need a higher needle position (more fuel) but the spark plugs will tell a tale as WD mentioned in his previous other posts.

The main jet in the rear is actually slightly larger than the front one, so... that should be ok. I'll try the middle position - that's usually where I start - but these things are a pain to get to, so I was hoping someone knew for sure Smile

I appreciate it, though.
