Good reminder at the start: stripping out aluminium threads is piss easy to do by hand, 30~40 Nm.

Some OEM aluminium components are helicoiled during manufacturer.

The helicoil presents more wear resistance for things that are regularly or periodically opened/disdisassembled.

We probably all assumed heli-coil style thread repair was the best but it's nice to see some tangible numbers to put clothes on the argument.

I never watched the clip but I do not rate helicoil as a panacea.

There are much better options available.

But Helicoil maybe has a more urban legend status.

the tl;dr is all the quick fixes, e.g. JB Weld, wouldn't stop a toddler with a plastic wrench.

Heli-coil plus its knock off both did massively better that the original aluminium but the more expensive variants - time-sert & ez-lok - I could see being useful in certain cases.
