I have scanned the forums for help on my decision to buy an NSR 125, and couldnt find too much. I plan on using one for everyday use.. do you recon it can take that everyday? i won't be doing that many miles mostly short trips. Also ive never ridden a 125 with gears (dont laugh i am a crappy moped driver ) do you recon i would need practice before going for my cbt? or is it easy to pick up ( i dont plan on goin on an nsr ). Also I know there are a few different models, i was looking at a 2002 supersprint, anyone know any rough estimation of average prices. Also one final thing, people claim speeds of 110mph on these things if "fully derestricted" sprockets and everything, average bhp is about 27 right? some people claim in the 30s. im just confused can anyone clear this up? ____________________ "Is It Just Me Or Did Everything Just Taste Purple" - Fry |

Someone on here had their NSR on a dyno and it produced 24hp, the RS125 makes about 26/28hp. None of the 125 two stroke race reps make 33hp in standard tune! (as far as I know). Being a two stroke, letting it warm up for a few miles before thrashing it is important, as is keeping the two stroke oil topped up with quality oil (can cost up to £12 a litre). It should do 90mph when derestricted, they are pretty reliable if looked after, but if abused like anything else it will fall apart. Parts are easy to get new and second hand and most are fairly cheap.
I bought my 1991 NSR125 FL for £350, did a nut and bolt rebuild, total cost is about £800 so you do not need to spend lots of money |

I guess that is off www.nsr125.com? the person who started that is the admin of these boards, best not start calling it bollocks the 110mph figure is a little off, none of the 125's will do 110mph, most only just manage 100mph. The two stroke oil is held in a plastic container (usualy under the fuel tank or seat) which leads to a pump, when you turn the throttle the oil goes into the carburettor and mixes with the fuel. All you have to do is keep the container topped up, it lasts for ages though, just check it every week or so
As for learning gears, it will only take a few hours to learn and be pretty much ready for the road. After that you will basically just increase the speed in which you can change up/down the box and also be able to use engine breaking |

see through clever wording i managed to not call it bollocks, i was just asking i should hopefully get away with it.... hopefully lol. well thanks for your help. by the way, havent checked out your profile but have you passed your test? is it worth forking out the money to take it or should i just stay on L plates for a while and derestrict regardless? ive noticed that the police are oblivious to derestricting, got pulled over on my moped after the L plate fell of flew up and cracked me in the face, 2 minutes later got pulled over for not having an L plate on the front... He didnt notice i was doin 50mph though? ah well. ____________________ "Is It Just Me Or Did Everything Just Taste Purple" - Fry |

Nearly there, just need a mudguard now, not that many bolts left over
Top end was gone unfortunately, but I picked up all the rear suspension parts and a nearly new set of forks up cheap off ebay so it worked out OK in the end. Hoping to get it on the road by march when I have all the gear etc |
