I think it’s if you still say, “Can I have….?” instead of, “Can I get….?”

The latter is only appropriate if you leap over the counter and help yourself.

I dunno, it just winds me up. I blame Friends.

"May I have?" would be my go-to.

It's a common phrase here - and it's nothing to do with 'Murca.

Well, the first time I would have heard it here would have been the early 70s. Pre Internet and floods of 'Murcan telly. In fact there were only 3 channels available. Laughing

Wait, are you the one who lives on some Scottish island? In which case you probably do go round the bar and get one (if there’s been no ship wrecks lately).

Agreed I hate that one - sounds impolite to me. Little wankers.

'Get' was the pet peeve of English teachers when I was at school.

My missus is slowly learning that whenever she starts a question with 'can' it's likely to return a 'probably'... Laughing

I'm in a similar boat with those. I wish there were a safer long term alternative that was as effective. I use Cocodamol as well, but only at low doses and have never suffered any signs of addiction to the codeine; been using them for years and have actually reduced the doses to minimal over that time, but they don't work so well with some of the deeper aches and pains.

I was out walking with the teenager the other day when we passed a load of Junior school children going the other way...

He looked at them with their yellow hi-viz in a big long walking-bus line and said "I feel old..."

I may have laughed.

As a bloke it must be when you start going to the doctors’, no?

Also when you stop yourself from jumping down from a stool after changing a light bulb because you think you’ll shatter into a thousand pieces.

I think it's the point t where you can't just use a doss mat when camping and have to use some sort of air filled mattress to sleep whilst camping despite how drunk you get.

Gaylord. Doesn't matter how much you drink, you should be able to fall asleep anywhere. Its the getting up in the morning that hurts more with age...
