For me it was the Yamaha R6 5EB, it was last of the carbed R6. People on here warned me against getting one due to the issue with the gearbox. I never had any issues thankfully. It was my first proper sports bike and used to scare me shitless, in a good way. Should really have kept it.

As with all old bikes they seem to be increasing in value. I haven't ridden a bike since that has the raw emotion. Strangely enough I traded it in for a VT100 Shadow, total opposite ends of the spectrum. Didn't like the cruiser, really underpowered for a 1100 cc engine, heavy and too much friggin Chrome.

Looking back at my list of bikes from the 80s, there's an awful lot I wish I still had, not necessarily because they were any good, but purely because of what they would be worth now.

The reality is, the number would run to several garage fulls and nobody had any clue that they were going to ever be worth anything, same as 'classic' cars, then they were just old things and not especially rare or exotic.

The one I really regret is my 1980 RD250F - bought it from the first owner in 1982 (£250 Shocked ) had a massive accident on it in 1983 (I came off much worse than the bike) then it languished in Dad's garage, initially as I was advised to keep it as evidence for the expected court case, which never happened.

Fast forward 30 years and it was still there, 99% complete but a total project and I wound up selling it to someone from here, who was going to use it as a source of spares for another one he had.

Had I been thinking a little more clearly, I should've used some of my inheritance on restoring it, but it looked like a lot of work to me and although nice examples had started to slowly creep up in value, basket cases weren't worth much at the time.

Of course, had I done it, I would now be the proud second owner of a low mileage RD, with a known history back to almost new (albeit a bit chequered) and it would be worth what, £7K minimum?

Ktm 990 adv R.
Loved that bike. Covered 55 thousand miles on it on top of the 8 it had on when i got it.

I think the new owner broke it up for parts to maximise return even though there was fuck all wrong with it.

Wish id kept it. A lot of fond memories

Probably my RS200 - the only bike I had new (£499 IIRC) from Coburn & Hughes Luton with a years insurance thrown in!

I pranged it in the first year I think, not badly but the forks were bent and I got a decent payout from the insurance of the prat that turned across me, which went towards an XJ550. Meanwhile I managed to get a set of more handsome early 70s RD200 forks along with a TLS brake which looked sexy, I also planned at the time to 'upgrade; it to RD spec with twin carbs etc.. but ran out of skill and money. I never got it back on the road and so I then sold it to a mate some years later for his girlfriend to ride and not seen them or the bike since.. YBM733X if anyone knows it..

Two really spring to mind. A Z650C3 I had from new. Sold to finance my first GoldWing which wasn't as good as the later ones.

The second bike was my 1800 GoldWing. An American import in bright yellow. I loved that bike. Was sold to buy a Hayabusa, a bike I had always coveted. However like many things, reality didn't quite live up to fantasy and wasn't in the same league for so many reasons.

My Bronze/Grey RR-W Fireblade, as I'm classing the insurance paying me for the wreckage as 'selling' it.

Felt like riding a ballistic armchair, and was so well put together it was unreal. Was absolutely mint, literally not a mark on it until I snapped it in half Crying or Very sad.

My GSXR750L. 116bhp (in perspective my 1100L only makes 120 bhp although has much more torque). Revved like a 400, went like a 900. Beyond the Yoshi pipe and carb kit I never figured out what had been done with it, although I also suspect electrical shenanigans as it had no rev limiter. Flogged for £1500 as I was between jobs, turned out that if I’d waited two months I’d of been back in work. There are others too like my RD350N and first GSXR400 but the 750 stands out as a bike I’d still be using now (perhaps as a base for an F1 inspired race bike).

None really, apart from the money i'd be sitting on if I still had them and kept them low mileage and clean. But that's why I don't regret selling them. Any bike I really like that I kept indefinitely would eventually get ridden into the ground, and end up with little or no value.

A list of bikes I never got to try that I would have liked to...that's something I'd give some thought to.

I had a 1982 XT500, sold it to a mate for £900, they are fetching over six grand these days.
I had a Triumph Trident 900 for several years, I miss riding that, not worth much today though.

Regret? Non, je ne regrette rien but I still have fond memories of my shitty Chinese Superlight. Probably just the footboards... maybe it was the arseless chaps...

I miss my Bonneville sometimes. I got rid of it because it was a one-trick-pony. Great for summer blasts (or rather, bimbling) but not for much else with no weather protection, no way to carry anything and not much speed. That said, on those balmy summer evenings I really do miss it - it was the perfect machine for burbling down the lanes on. So yes, I do regret selling it in that regard, but I've no space to keep it in addition to my current bikes so while I might regret it, I couldn't have it even if I wanted to.

And look what it's got us so far Laughing

I wouldn't mind having my 929 back (sold it to help with house deposit). Definitely would like my K5 thou, but that was sold to the insurance company, so maybe a different K5 with the same mods Laughing

None of 'em - well okay, maybe my carbed vanvan; but that would be just for the cute factor (it was in minty nick for an '04 plate). I'd never ride the damn thing. Maybe if i lived in town it would make sense. But nah. Fvck it. Daft idea.

I still have occasional nostalgic longings for my old 1959 pre unit Thunderbird.
It wasn't pristine, fast or sporty and recall it wallowed like a bitch on fast bends and if you caned it in first gear
the cam ring would sometimes slip and need resetting but enjoyed just cruising about on it.

The only one I regret is the little 100cc "Honda" Win I rode around SE Asia. It was objectively terrible by any measure, vibey, terrible brakes, not particularly comfy, flat out about 45mph with me and all my stuff.

But it was so god damn tough. God knows what its previous history was, or how old it was, but it hadn't had an easy life, and it didn't get one from me either. I bottomed out the front suspension hundreds of times. Rode it on every possible kind of road/trail surface. Ragged the crap out of it everywhere. Snapped most of the front mudguard off and kicked the front sprocket cover off while offroading. Permanently overloaded it with all my rucksacks and my 6'4 frame. It never missed a beat.

I really considered getting it shipped back to the UK. But there were way too many potential problems with getting it registered etc., and it would probably have been terrifying with UK traffic. I still miss you Pooey! (like "Winnie the Pooh", "Pooey the Win", geddit?)

My KR1S that was killed by Kevin ... I should have bought it back from the insurance company but too much of me hurt to think about it.

My CD200 Benly, I got next to nothing for it and I only sold it because I was in a "buy one, sell one" frame of mind.

None really, it was always a move up to what I wanted at the time or needs must. Probably one that registers is an RG500 suzuki. Bought my daughter a car from the proceeds, it was a shit car then lol.

All of them bar my old Bimota SB6R, which was a pig to set up and too expensive to drop.

My little Yamaha 125XT.
Bought it new, didn't have it for long but we did have some cool adventures.
I'd buy it back if I ever found it still alive.

Main one is a pre-divvy XJ900 that I had as a company bike. I'm generally a diehard Kwak rider but that bike was indestructible, we got it at 50k on the clock and I took it around the clock and back up to around 70k in the years I was on it. When I left the company they sold to it a local scrappy for £250 - if I'd known how much I was getting as a redundancy payout I'd have taken it as part of the package, but sadly that all came too late. It was incredibly reliable and generally pretty comfortable to ride, scruffy as hell though Laughing
