I have to say I have encountered many nice car drivers lately.
Cutting into bus/cycle lanes slightly to let me pass, pulling over/indicating over to let me pass, moving out of my way as I filter, and other such nice stuff.
And a lot of bikers can be quite elitist and unfriendly....
On the whole though, I agree, but don't write car drivers off, there are a fair few nice ones out there.
Especially all the ones who gave me a whole cars width to filter in, but maybe that is because I was filtering behind an Ambulance.... Embarassed

If you are on 2 wheels, bikers will be nice to you, cars will be indifferent.

If you are on 4 wheels, bikers will ride like twats around you, car drivers will be indifferent.

I think everybody has noticed the power rangers who are utter twats and just ride a bike so they are the fastest thing on the road. On the whole though most bikers are friendly. Where ever you go if you find someone who rides a bike they will be perfectly happy to talk to you or help you out.

I'm in the same boat as bumper.

TBH, I think bikers make better car drivers.
I always give you guys plenty of room and always double check for bikes at junctions and when overtaking etc.

Had a couple of scares on my bike with twat car drivers, so I know what it's like.

Certain *car communitys* are also friendly to each other on the road as well, wave at each other or let them out of junctions etc Smile

Darwinism. Most of the twats that try to ride bikes don't last very long, leaving a large majority of nice bikers... Very Happy

i get surprised how many car drivers wont pull over a little to let a biker past, like they have a right to by blocking the carriageway.

I always give bikers room to manaouvre freely.

But i hate scooter riders and L plate 125'ers who roll to the front of traffic lights and park themselves off my front bumper, when that light turns green, i will be doing 60 in just over 5 seconds, so please - keep out of my way too, just cos i got a fast car don't mean i want to race a bike either - I aint daft - racing a bike with a car is like chasing you with a brick wall.

some good in cars mostly not i guess

the other week i was in a car in a traffic jam and i was watching this bloke on an old Norton try to split traffic but this prick in a car kept blocking him causing him off the road.

the biker was pissed and rode up next to the guy in the jag and kicked the the car door

i hope he left a big dent in the car door

I'm a "125 l'plater" and I WILL filter to the front of a traffic queue if I feel safe to do so, and I bet I'm a damn site faster pulling away that you are, plus the fact that most traffic lights are on 30-40 roads anyway, you shouldn't be up my arse doing sixty, cause I might just touch my brakes and sue ya.

A40 was shut last night there was traffic from Uxbridge to Southall. I had a right laugh. May have been the best ride of my life. I was almost dissappointed when I got out of it.
I'm doing my driving test in a few weeks, but I think I might hang on to scooter for a little while yet. There are loads of top car drivers about. But theres are a few who can't see over the steering wheel or are just completeley inept, but they usually drive buses so you get a good warning. Peas.

I think drivers are start to become more aware of bikers in general, it seems to me that there are many more nikes on the roads these days and in my opinion that is why the death rate figures have gone up, more bikers = more crashes. I think this publicity has made some car drivers more aware of bikers. Bikers are always nice to each other though. Apart from the arrogant ones who won't nod or wave because I am on a ped.

Well I'm sure if you had a car which could filter to the front you would do. Two stroke 125's will manage 0-60 in around 6 seconds so they are able to beat the vast majority of cars off the traffic lights so filtering to the front is always logical.

I'll nod to anyone, and I put my thumb up to drivers who move over for me. Thumbs Up

I've been noticing more nods since i've been on my "bike" i.e. not my old hairdrier of an NRG. It also feels much safer off the lights as well, as the acceleration will ensure that you will be at least 20 metres in front of the following car (4 stroke 125 that is!)

As regards to nods, the number of nods i get back are usually by people who are in their 20's - 30's or seriously cool cruiser guys. Some Indian Ruff-Ryder guy with a GIXXER SRAD down my road never nods back Evil or Very Mad and always does silly speeds down my road!

But seriously, i believe the people that nod back are those that are really in with the biking culture and can acknowledge a fellow biker when they see one. Anyone agree?

I filter up to lights, (me being an L plate 125'er) and most cars won't get anywhere near me off the lights.

If I'm out fairly late at night after work all the kids in their tarted up saxos try their luck off the lights. Not a hope, even with my 10 year old 125 MZ.

bikers seem to be fairly 'snooty' against L platers. I don't get 'the biker nod' very often. Only from people below me on the pile i.e ped bois.

I'm one of those L plate 125ers, and lately i hate goin down my local high street. So many prats who pull out for no reason. I almost got knocked off twice by the same twat in a BMW yesterday, i had to go into the other side of the road to step gettin knocked off. Thank god there was nothin comin the other way. Gave his door a good kickin at 30 tho, considerin he almost knocked me off 20 seconds earlier.

What do you wear? I'm on L plates, but i've noticed around a 50% nod factor... And this is excluding mopeds(i still nod to them though).

I wonder whether wearing full black leathers(as i do) makes more people view you as a "proper" biker?
