06 Yamaha R1 leaking coolant when hot

Hi
My 06 R1 leaks coolant out by the kickstand whenever Im stationary for tool long.
It gets to 100 degrees pretty quick and starts dumping coolant out of the overflow.

Is it normal for a bike to start dumping coolant as soon as it hits 100 degrees?

My ZX6 did this when the radiator fan switch (coolant temperature sensor) failed. Does your fan work?

It does... But it kicks in at about 109 degrees.
Seems weird to be.

It's like as soon as the water boils it's just letting the coolant out

It isn't supposed to boil. That's the whole point of a pressurised system.

Or do you mean reaches the boiling point temp at sea level pressure?

Check your radiator cap, your symptoms sound like the cap is failing to pressurize the cooling system. You might try using a STANT 11233 cap (or equivalent). I have used these caps on several Honda and Kawasaki models over the years. You can find them at the auto parts store; great alternative to the 35 or 40 quid the dealer wants for the OE cap.

I'd get an IR thermometer on it and give the cooling system a
jolly good check over.
Most cars/bikes I've had ran at close to 90 and only got too 100C
if there was a problem
A weak spring or leaking seal on a rad cap will not pressurise the system
does it have an expansion bottle? most bikes do.
A failing thermostat may not be opening up properly thereby preventing good coolant flow.
A faulty pump may not be circulating the coolant efficiently
A blocked rad will inhibit flow.
A cracked head or block can cause it to overheat as well
where coolant will often fill and eventually overflow the expansion bottle.
A late operating or sticky fan switch wont help either.
Air locks in the rad or pipework won't help either, some systems
need to be 'burped'when coolant is added to remove any air locks.
I had pinhole leak in a coolant pipe that made biek run hotter than normal.

As I said, jolly good check over rather than look for a quick fix

Ordered a new rad and rad cap.... fingers crossed.
It cools very well when Riding. The temps go up fucking fast when stationary though

Check to make sure the radiator fans are operational. An open circuit or a bad temp sensor will certainly cause an overheat when the bike is stationary. Also, inspect the radiator for airflow obstruction or bent fins.

It's a common problem on Suzukis and it's usually down to the radiator cap.

Check that the overflow pipe going from the expansion tank cap into the coolant is not too far into the tank.Someone I know kept dumping coolant until we checked that tube.Once adjusted and a small zip-ty was affixed to stop it doing that again he had no further problems.

What is the coolant mixture?If it is a straight 50/50 mix that you buy from car shops like Halfreuds,you are not doing your cooling system any good in this hot weather as it is ideal for winters where the temperature 'might' get down to -30c but not in the UK.

Ideally you should use 100% distilled water as this is the most efficient way of moving heat away from hot spots in the engine,especially around the cylinder head.But due to the requirement for anti-corrosion inhibitors,some of this is needed.

If you buy some concentrated quality coolant then mix it yourself,it will keep your engine running much more efficiently.
In my R1 and KTM enduro I use 70% distilled water,25% concentrated anti-freeze/anti-corrosion inhibitor and 5% Redline WaterWetter.This last ingredient reduces the skin tension of water and helps to lubricate water pump seals.
