Obviously it's almost a certainty Labour are going to win but it seems the Conservatives are trying their hardest to help them.

Rishi Sunak says he won't return money from donor accused of racism

It's not the only thing they have done to 'upset' their own applecart and while I don't like him very much Sunak isn't an idiot, he could surely see what would happen if he didn't reject the money. (not that I disagree witth the donor - Conservative donor who reportedly said MP Diane Abbott "should be shot Laughing ).

I suspect they think the quickest and easiest way to defeat the Labour party is to have them in power and let them destry themselves.

That's my conspiracy theory anyway. Thumbs Up

Ah yes, the man who said that his comment that Ms Abbott made him "want to hate all black women" was nothing to do with skin colour...

What did Diane Abbott do to get herself suspended from the Labour party? Thinking

What would be the benefit of returning the £10 million donation?

Fell victim to Starmer's antisemitism purge, around the same time as Corbyn IIRC

Something about pikeys not being subject to racism wasn't it. Which I agree with by the way. They should just be shot as well. Thumbs Up

I think they are keeping quiet because it's not actually negative publicity.

I for one am quite comfortable with them accepting money from someone who clearly can't stand Dianne Abbot, I suspect many others are in a similar position.

Even his alleged comments aren't particularly racist, they were about how he hates her so much, he has to be careful not to consider others of the same race and gender as being like her.

I hated Dianne Abbot before I knew her race. I don't watch TV, just mostly listen to the radio and had no idea of what she looked like until she started going on about it.

Saying out loud he wishes someone should shoot her was probably a step too far, that's the kind of thing you should reserve for your interior monologue.

Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest? Stochastic Terrorism 101 Neutral

The blame lies entirely with the kids going "...and then he came in wearing red trousers and mustard coloured Nikes. I literally could have died!" Which in turn means figuratively has also been ruined Sad

They should have put out a press release that the whole thing had been clipped and he actually said "...she should be shot <snip> in Minecraft."

I don’t see why the party should have to give the money back, they were blameless in this instance.

It was a private conversation and “she should be shot” is an idiom, not a decree.

If he meant Abbott is a poor ambassador and role model he was right. She’s a race grifter.

Such stories have little to do with moral indignation and are all about harming your opposition.

The irony of this coming to light at the same time as the new definition of extremism indicating he's an extremist isn't lost on me.

I feel I should also point out that I mainly hate Dianne Abbot because she is clearly utterly incompetant and educationally sub-normal and has somehow landed up in a job which could carry some serious responsability.

Presumably via the usual means of being promoted into being someone elses problem because it's easier and quieter than sacking her. Whitehall being at the top of the metaphorical dungheap in that respect.

The Peter principle. You get promoted till the point that your incompetence becomes apparent.

Not really, no. Her incompetance is readily apparent and probably has been at every stage of her career. Just if you try to sack her, or even mention it she will claim it's because of discrimination and it's you who lands up in the shit.

In all levels of government/public office, the easiest way to get rid of someone incompetant/annoying/smelly/difficult from your department without getting dragged into a tribunal is to promote them into a position where you no longer have to work with them. Then they leave willingly and are now someone elses problem. This holds true right up until you reach the top. It's why Whitehall is so crammed full of annoying fuckwits.

But National Socialism absolutly did work in the 30's because it pulled Germany out of the sh1t hole the allies from WW1 dumped it into.

In early 1922, 160 German marks was equivalent to one US dollar. By November of 1923, the currency would depreciate to 4,200,000,000,000 marks to one US dollar.

at which time they had to start WW1 reparations.

£10M worth of freedom of speech.

Abbot is a clown and was obviously voted into our once great political system by racists.
Her incompetent behaviour as a senior political actor has been demonstrated countless times over many years.

It's a pity that politicians are immune from prosecution for unprofessional decision making.
That would thin the cabinet of clowns and buck up the ideas of the rest of them.

I don't think people realise how dark a place the Weimar Republic was. The decadence went as far as Berlin turning a blind eye to child prostitution on its streets Shocked Literally anything would have been an improvement. The choice of either National Socialism (fascism) or International Socialism (communism) ended up being "would you like a small genocide or a large genocide?" Sad

Decadence and diversity did for both the Weimar Republic and the Roman Empire but nobody ever learns from history.

Whoever gets in will be presiding over the ultimate shit show of closing down internal combustion cars because apparently it all got enshrined in unchangeable legislation years ago when 2030 seemed a long way off.

The reality of this starts to bite next year as part of the way it will be enforced is draconian fines on manufactures who don't sell an escalating percentage of EVs - they have to be at 80% in five years.
It simply can't be done.

If it were enshrined in unchangeable legislation years ago, surely car manufacturers had plenty of time to make the necessary change but have chosen to stick their heads in the sand instead.

Why are you an apologist for coercive legislation?! It's almost like you're a Nazi or something Wink Be curious as to when in history price fixing and quotas made the world a better place.

The ZEV Mandate is spiteful madness that yet again says "We have a problem [that we made up] and it's gonna cost lots of money and we think poor people should foot the bill." Why do socialists hate the poor so much?! Bear in mind it's a £15,000 fine if you sell an ICE car beyond your quota. That's a lot of money on a say a Corsa (ICE £19,000, EV version £32,000) but fuck all for something like an Aston Martin. It'll just sit in the options list like all the other overpriced add-ons and rich people will tick the box like they're changing the leather interior and not bat an eye.

I watched a documentary on Turkmenistan recently. In short it's the sort of place where the leaders look to North Korea for inspiration Shocked Half the GDP, half! goes straight into the back pocket of whoever's in charge and that doesn't leave much left over for the essentials... like statues of the Dear Leader covered in gold leaf so they ask government employees to "donate" their wages to such projects Sad

How are these EV mandates any different? "But Bro, we have to tackle Climate Change!" to which I say: go fuck yourself and the horse* you rode in on, I'm sick of the lies and the grift.

What will really happen as these quotas ramp up? If the previous emissions testing scandal teaches us anything: shenanigans.

Prepare to see loads of car dealerships go under as the manufacturers pressure them to have more EVs on the forecourt. Sales numbers will be rigged to say all those cars are actually sold (and then go into the quota figures) and loads of EVs will be discounted as the usual pre-registered "5 miles on the clock, basically new" trick. Be in no doubt, someone will make a loss here and it won't be the manufacturers.

The main tool the dealers will have to offset EVs losses will be the near-new, technically second-hand ICE cars being sold at a premium. (A dry run of this was done during the Scamdemic with the chip shortage.) Nothing but EVs after 2035? The reality will be more like 2040 when a fully serviced, "as-new" with full 3 year warranty for a 5 year old ICE car will be stretching credulity to its limits.

Maybe manufacturers will try and stimulate demand by building more public charge points? Then we're back to the State asking for "donations" to the latest vanity project Sad

Price fixing and quotas are the socialist fallacy of "I know better than The Market!" You know better than a 7 billion element distributed computational system. Of course you do Rolling Eyes

*Ironically less eco-friendly than an ICE car.

Point 1. It was only about 4 years ago that the legislation was introduced and

Point 2. It was introduced by the tories during one of 5heir most right wing episodes in power.
