Are you sure that there are no restrictions in the fuel supply to each carburetor?
Are you sure the carburetors are accurately synchronized?
Does the engine miss under load, or just at idle? Exhaust temp readings immediately after the engine has run under load may give you a better idea of discrepancies between cylinders. |
Sorry for the delay.
I rechecked the float levels. they are good all at 17.
The carbs were accurately sync a few thousand miles ago. only about
4ooo on it after the rebuild. it ran great , and then started this miss out of the blue. the miss is not under load, but i have not tried to ride it since it started missing.
i have a inline fuel filter. the float bowls seam to be filling ok. Its missing right after starting, not like its running ok and then starving.
i have cleaned them again. i found some more bits of the old pilot screw O rings that degraded ,and some bits have may have gone into the pilot circuit . the pulsing is gone. i just have a miss in cyl 4. and a little pop or backfiring. I will try to clean #4 again.
Plugs look a little rich if anything, but I would expect that after a start up with chock and a short run time. Groups not so much. looks like it was wet? a little confusing really?
Valve lash is good. compression is 200psi to 215.
I have not really looked into the carb boots. they look fine, as as we know, that doesn't mean much. i have heard that u can test them by running a unlit torch of some kind around them? ____________________ 76 KZ900, cams, RS34's |

You can test for inlet air leaks using any form of flammable vapour. An unlit bolwlamp would work, as does a spray of EZ start or even WD40. If you spray it on the inlet rubbers with the engine idling and the idle speed increases, it must be sucking extra fuel through the leak.
Another way is to get it somewhere very still and use a smoke machine to see if it's drawing in smoke.
Or just change them. You can pick up a set of new ones for £20-ish. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |
