I had no idea they could choose a different name. Shouldn’t Charles have picked something more in keeping with modern, multi-cultural Britain? Suggestions?

There goes the Commonwealth. I suspect those nations who were loyal to QEII will take this as an opportunity to review their position.

Apparently it will take months if not years to start to introduce new royal iconography on coins and banknotes, considering he is 73 it hardly seems worth bothering.

They might speed things up by using the spitting image version but everything would need to be bigger to fit in nose and ears.

I know social media is pretty toxic but sometime it really really exceeds itself.

I'm not going to bother posting links but there are some that are so disguisting that it's enough to make you want to keel haul them,

People have the right to critisise, FFS I do it to politicians all the time but the Queen wasn't a politician, ahe was the head of state for the country. People are saying she was a colonist, an oppressor of ethnics. I'll tell you one thing, for all her faults she didn't order the kiling of innocents like some well thought of asshole, did she Nelson.

Personally I think we're seeing the beginning of the end. There's no way the main demographic of monarchist plebs will invest so much emotionally in King Chadders and his successor is a plank whos range rover mommy wife seems to be universally disliked. Then there's the Prince of Gingerness lurking in the background ready to stick the monarchy in the bin.

The Queen had high approval ratings, Charlie not so much but the public do seem to like Wills and Kate.

Always the question should be: if we get rid of the monarchy what would we replace it with? A president I suppose, someone with none of the international cachet of a 1,200 year old monarchy. Rename to "The United Republics of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" and sink into banality and irrelevance like every other country in the world.

If that's ambition I'd hate to see what diffidence is Sad

The monarchy here has majority support, but I think a smaller majority than 45 years ago, I do not think I will see it end in my life time, but I will see it diminish still further, and probably see a slim majority opposed come to pass Will witness some more countries becoming republics also, I should think

I bet there's a lot more Royalists than there used to be. Even I have had my heart softened.

I wonder whether it was her choice to die at Balmoral or if it was sudden.

One thing is the Scottish republicans can get to fuck after this.

I still want Scottish independence, away from the nonsense that is the Westminster government, but not a republic. It is possible to have your cake and eat it.

Charles is not a bad lad.
