Hi all, I am just starting out on refurbishing an 1980 Honda H100, The bike has been sat in a shed for 25 years, i have just stripped the bike and all there is wires unclipped hanging out everywhere. I am looking to upgrade the whole wiring loom, would you advise on following diagram and just doing it myself? Also could I upgrade it to 12v or would you advise against it

Many Thanks

According to cmsnl the 83 H100 has this common type of stator
for bikes of that era so it has quite a limited output.
One coil supplies power to the ignition and one supplies the lights

I recently upgraded a 1975 Mobylette moped to run both 12v leds
and AC CDI ignition and it works pretty good
Better, easier starting and lights where you don't have to revs the tits off the thing to get them bright.

There are various options open to you but with such limited output I'd say going to LED lights is a no brainer.
The simplest option would be to just swap the blubs for 6v led types
and see what effect that has.

You can make a whole new wiring loom from scratch. Even for a simple bike like that, it's surprisingly expensive and complex. Wire is expensive, particularly buying lots of short lengths of different colours. You will need a big table/bench/board to lay it all out on to get the right lengths.

Everything inside the loom tape is probably fine. You may be better off getting a load of new connectors and replacing them, seeing as they're the points that get corroded and burnt. Vehicle wiring products sell the right sort of connectors, or you could replace them all with something newer, better and waterproof.

If it was previously a 6V system, the wiring will have no trouble with 12V - it's half the current for the same wattage, so it gives wiring an easier time. The fun bit is finding and replacing everything that runs at 6v.

Add in oddities like AC lighting, and it just gets confusing.

LED lights with the standard setup aren't an option because it uses direct AC lighting.

There might be an argument for rewiring it with the whole charging output going through a proper single phase reg/rec into a battery or capacitor THEN using LED bulbs.
